I can guess the answer to that .

On a side note why is Mega space 2544 fitted with a horn from a Puch Maxi ?

Newmercman will tell me its perfectly up to the job

I dont even bother blasting the horn if I get cut up as its all alittle silly , cant blast the horn at kids waving off bridge and cant blast the horn at rabbits to get out of road , I just have to squash them.
Even my Daf had a proper horn, I asked about fitting some of those cheap air horns but the fleet manager started rambling about warranty and looked at me like I asked to sleep with his wife :sunglasses:

I have to admit that a lot of the people that, in my opinion, were entertaining posters, have stopped using the forums. Some of them were controversial, some were funny, some were knowledgable and some were called Rob K:lol:

The UK forum in particular is quite often a waste of time, some of the questions asked and the opinions expressed leave me shaking my head in disbelief. Itā€™s kind of the same way the magazines went, TRUCK is often heralded as the best magazine of the lot, yet the dumbed down ā€˜comicā€™ version of it, namely T&D, kicked its arse.

The ā€˜old schoolā€™ trucknet members are far outnumbered by the new members, if Rikkiā€™s numbers are to be believed, so it stands to reason that the site will change to suit the majority, as theyā€™re the ones who are making all the posts and asking all the questions.

So itā€™s simple really, if you donā€™t like what you see, get involved, post something and steer the forum in the direction you would like to see it go.

If all youā€™re going to do is complain about things and do nothing to change them yourself, itā€™s like moaning about the government when you never voted.

HTH

Was trying to say something like this but you have put it much better than me

Is also wondering do some people read or just post stuff as in PDF there are 2 post asking the same question within a few spaces of each other 1st posted yesterday then the other today :unamused: :unamused: another reason not to to look in

There is a Newbies forum that most of the post could be in as that is what it is for as the only question you dont ask is the stupid 1 but you may get some daft answers

Turn it aroundā€¦ from the top-
It was never going to be a constructive thread when the OP decided to use a word that is banned instead of the correct title for the site - given that start its hard to take it seriously.

Anyone that says that they are happy with the current status quo/or dislkes the tone in this post gets abuse in this thread - hardly condusive to meaningful feedback or discussion

Then another profilic member on this thread decided to use the slang term for ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  (caught by the auto censor) towards a member of staff in a number of posts in this thread.

Make friends and influence people ?- do not start a topic with an offensive title or use obscene terms towards staff- or abuse and belittle those that disagree with you, then they may be more receptive to what you have to say - as soon as anyone resorts to such terms we switch off- We do not have to take such abuse never mind take note of what those people are saying -

From the owners- the message is simple- we do not tolerate such abuse to our paid or voluntary staff and anyone doing so should have their ability to use the forum freely permanently restricted to ensure they cannot do so in future

The moderating team do read and discuss points raised in here- for instance there are swear words being used on the forums today that a few years ago were not allowed after the feedback in here - also we have allowed threads to be more free flowing than in the past- what we wont do is take note or listen to those that abuse the site or the staff.

I have overall responsibility for the forums but do very little moderating nowadays, TruckNet is only a part of my job- the volunteer admin team do the vast majority of the work and do it very well as far as the owners are concerned- my concerns are mostly down to legal challenges by ill thought out posts

As regards the stats I quoted earlier- just for information they come from an independent analysis (Google analytics) that we pay for and use to create legaly binding contracts with advertisers- hardly an abacus or made up - but why let facts get in the way of a good arguement?

Constructive criticism ā€¦ delivered/posted in a manner that is not abusive is welcome - abuse will always be ignored

So the answer remains the same- be abusive and offensive then your not welcome here. If you have the ability to discuss in a civil manner -then thats what this forum is here for- If thats beyond your capability then go elsewhere- itā€™s not a kicking post for TruckNet or its staff

Final point NewMercman is rightā€¦ the mods and owners dont create or make the content here- you do - if the content is crap look towards yourselves for not contributing in a positive mannerā€¦ you make it we dont !

I realise it is a hard situation to balance as I do look at some of the threads on here lately and think how do these people manage to tie there shoe laces let alone hold down a job. Even the old time forum as gone a bit off key with people been virtually ridiculed as they get the name of some obscure hungarian town they was lastin back in 1984 wrong or they get the worn gearbox spec for a 1967 Atkinson borderer with a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  engine.
Short of the mods reviewing every topic and post before it goes live what can they do.
I suppose like life everything goes through cycles and we are in a bit of thereā€™s nothing really exciting happening at the moment but itā€™s down to us as users to liven it up a bit.
It is sad that some people such as Rob k or coffeeholic who even if I didnā€™t agreed with a lot of there views donā€™t post on here as they always had a well reasoned argument why they thought what they did but itā€™s there choice at the end of the day.

Well said kr79, I completely agree!

The mods are damned if they do, and damned if they donā€™t! What a thankless task they have :unamused:

There are a few posters who have gone and they did offer some constructive and reasoned arguments but all too often the keyboard warriors pop their heads up and all hell breaks looseā€¦ Everybody gets something wrong occasionally - it ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  me off when they have to be publicly slated and humiliated by someone they donā€™t even know! It wouldnā€™t happen on the street, so why here?

As has been said before, a lot of posters take this FAR too seriouslyā€¦

A lot more seem to take it FAR too personally as wellā€¦ :unamused:

I havenā€™t driven professionally for 12 years now and some of the ridiculous questions of late make me cringe! It can only be a feeble attempt at trolling, surely? By the same token, all that has to be done by ā€˜usā€™ is ignore the feeble posts and posters unless they are in the Newbies forum? Or at least, direct the poster to the Newbiesā€¦?

Rikki. Canā€™t you come up with some form of Tinternet satnav that will divert a new poster away from the unshaven and drunken masses until theyā€™ve proven themselves elsewhere?

You wonder why some posters donā€™t post much well read this thread then you might just find out as everything has to be done perfectly or to their licking

Sorry but we are not all good at the same thing ( if we were life would be boring I think ) we donā€™t all put thing across in the way we intend them or other posters read them in a different manner to what you have intended
It can be quite easy to misspell something especially if you hit a wrong key ( ok yes we the poster should check it first but if like me you use all of your fingers to type it can happen sometimes you think you have hit a key and this doesnā€™t register ( yes this does happen with me as well )

Maybe I am 1 that did not do so well at school due to the fact that I changed every few years due to moving but have tried since then to improve myself and no I cant be bothered with all the infighting that seem to go on life is far to short to worry about

If anything you could say nothing at all or be constructive in your criticism or those that have seen the film Bambi " If you cant say something nice donā€™t say nothing at all "

Iā€™ve often wondered that myself, the 2548 horn is just the same.

I do have the answer for that :open_mouth:

The Mercedes Benz horns are tested in France, the test involves driving a prototype vehicle down the road and tooting the horn, count the number of people that run for cover and if it is over a certain percentage, the horn gets passed and put into production. The trucks on test are painted a drab olive green colour.

As history will tell you, most French people run and hide at the sight of any German vehicle in military colours, so this explains why the horns are so crappy

MAN also have embarrassing gay horns I assume they use the same procedure?

kr79:
MAN also have embarrassing gay horns I assume they use the same procedure?

Ze Germans all use the same procedures, thatā€™s how you can tell the difference between an Italian IVECO and a German one too

How can about half a dozen regular posters make silent majority, and how do they make so many posts when they are meant to be profesional drivers? When I was driving, I didnā€™t have time to spend on trucknet!
In England the word ā– ā– ā– ā–  may mean ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  but in Scotland it means idiot or stupid person.
But once again, the self made messiah of this once good dote has shouted from the roof tops PUT UP OR SHUT UP.
A question to Rikki, why if this site is still popular, does his own wife not post on here any more? Does the once very vocal Lucy think the site is dieing a death.
Where is RobK, Williemac, and all the prolific posters we once had on here? The ones that not only had a sense of humour, gave great advice because if their plethora of knowledge.
This forum has turned into a parody of itself, posters who see the funnier side of transport get shot down, whilst the arse lickers who ā– ā– ā– ā–  up to the admin get to join the club.
This forum, along with the other forum, you know, a but like Voldermort, the one that shall remain nameless have long past their sell by date, Rikki and skeletor from the other forum have gotten so far up their own backsides that they have lost touch with the real world. The trucking world, where drivers still call each other by swear words.
Where they think that the driver cpc is the future and where drivers who sit 35 hours of boredom over 5 years are the best drivers there will ever be.
I got a letter from the DVLA yesterday saying if I donā€™t give them another Ā£19 for a digital tachograph card that I wonā€™t be able to drive a truck with a digital tachograph again, I thought about it for about 1 second and then said sod em, Iā€™m not being held to ransom anymore to be able to do my job!
I have now got a job that pays me more than driving a truck, that I only have to work 36 hours a week to achieve this and I go home to have dinner with my familly and sleep in my own bed.
The die hards amongst you, who still think driving is a great job and still think that truckers forums have still got a role to play. Good luck, youā€™ll need it.
Me! This will probably be my last ever post on here, Iā€™m joining the rest of the sensible ones and getting out with some dignity before this site and others like it become a laughing stock.

They should have stuck with the air cooled beetle.

The industry has moved onā€¦ Its a brave new world out there, the days of being given a job and ring in when empty are gone for the huge majority- nowadays its timed, tracked, told when and where to stop- not for all but for most

The biggest change is the move from lorry drivers- guys(and a few girls) who were virtually independant to a structured working enviroment where opening the cab door is seen as just another job the same as turning on the computer at a work desk.

Like it or not- some of us (me included) are dinosaurs in this new age of ā€œlogisticsā€ rather than haulage.

You and me may not like itā€¦ but thats the way it has gone. When I was driving being a ā€œmaverickā€ or a ā€œcharacterā€ was a positive thing- nowadays its definatly a negative .

Transport has changed in the last 10 years trebleā€™ what it did in the twenty years before that

This forum has changed - as the industry has- but it reflects what the industry is today.

And it will keep on changing- as new blood comes in, who never knew the freedoms we had- and they will moan in time about how all the new guys know nothing.

It is the nature of the industry and even of these forums that they evolve and move onā€¦ some people go - new people come in.

No-one on the admin team makes the content on here- the current members of the industry do- and that includes the old guard as well as the new breed.- and there is a conflict between the two- but TruckNet isnt here to pass judgement on which is right or wrong- we give all the same chance to post respectfully and remove those that dont- the same rules we have used for over 10 years and will do for the next 10

Has anyone mentioned Hats on this thread yet?

To be honest It is the reason that I donā€™t post on here very much :stuck_out_tongue:

Hats could help if the sun is bright or you are very bald
