Hi Colin, This is Charlie in his younger day, Looking back to those days we have most likley met, If you ever parked up at Fisher Lane Seaton Burn, I recall a lad Roy, He was the one who told me that they were packing in and thats when I bought the Sedaki, Mortons used t park there quite a lot ,Along with Douglas Bros, & Philips of Seahouses. I had the old brick building & yard as my opperating center, All this land & the old wooden garages belonged to my cousins The Boiston Bros.Regards Larry.Yes I recognise Charlie from that photo; he always wore bib and brace overalls when I knew him.i must have parked up at your yard dozens of times over the four years I was at Morton’s,when I finished in 82 they only ran four trucks; 3 Atkinson artics and a six wheeler Leyland (F.reg), it would be Roy Gibson who you remember; he was with Morton for a lot of years as was Dennis Beverage who drove the other Atki which had the ■■■■■■■ 250 fitted, I think them two units came from Patterson’s of Aberdeen. Colin.
Couple of Johnny foreigners ! Despite having a class 1 I mostly drove 8whlrs, they were by far and away the most stable. Artics always felt to me like an accident waiting to happen, nonsense of course ! 6 whlrs were also an accident waiting to happen,n sometimes nearly did. Never drove a 4whlr n I’m glad. Heading towards Banbury loaded at 30t , I was doing 50mph on a right hand bend n nearside 2nd steer went bang! If it wasn’t for the noise I wouldn’t have known what had happened, bet I’d have found out pretty ■■■■ quick in any of the others ! Cheers coomsey
Or what, sorry Coomsey, couldn’t resist.

Looks like she’s going to need a burning newspaper before you go anywhere with her Ro !

Can’t make out the reg,but it looks like Paul Hyman’s old motor.
I did have a pic of it that I copied from one of the mags years ago but lost it.
5thwheel:
Bet this was a cracking looking motor when new!
What do you reckon, 1955?
Well its a 1951 Preston reg, Larry.

I think that this 8 wheeler Leyland Octopus may have been a Leyland Motors demonstrator.
considering that it has a Preston registration number plate, and that the town of Leyland
where this lorry was built is just about 5 miles south of Preston. Also, Leyland town did not
have its own number plates, most vehicles from new in Leyland would have number plates
from Lancashire County Council, TB, TC, TD, TF, & TJ.

Coincidently we have a nationwide company, of the same name, based in South Australia. The fleet livery is remarkably similar.

Here is another from Smith’s fleet,Alex and James Smith viewing their latest purchase!
Scammels must be up there with best, don’t remember many bad comments about them.I had a J reg on for Tarmac, Leyland, 6sp box, she was a fine tool
Could this gal be the bestist ( is that more like it SDU ? ) My first Akky 180/ dB 8 hated it n jacked after 3days of her. Next un ■■■■■■■■■■■■ now we’re talking, begged the gaffer not to take me off her, fell on deaf or daft ears
