I would love to know what some these lorry drivers are earning nowadays? From what I can see that wage is about average for most driving jobs.
So the driver vacancies for the F1 season are to A be a driver B a general dogs body /security guard at nights, And they don’t even say what it’s paying
Then there is the fact that their online application form that requests some in depth personal details about yourself and driver licence number , all on a insecure web site that doesn’t even use HTTPS ffs shows how high they regard potential staff

Each to his own, but I have done work like that before and it will be what I remember on my deathbed as the best job I ever had. I have seen the chairman of BP roll up his sleeves and mop the trailer floor, nobody is too proud to get the show on the road.
It’s not for those whose idea of heaven is to sit in a Tesco waiting room talking ■■■■■■■■ I know, but for the craic of being part of an event it’s hard to beat.

No good some of our drivers taking that job. I went to a customer the other day who said the last driver who came there refused to load the truck and insisted he was “Just a driver” and that they must load it themselves.
Needless to say he’s now seeking other employment

The £38k figure quoted if you read the small print, is based on being away internationally on 12 day runs and including allowances. Fine if you have absolutely zero home life…
When you get back from one of those round trips then, how many days are you home before setting off again?
Surely the max working 5-6 applies over a fortnight, with the 12th day being the reduced weekly rest period in the middle…
If you get home, only to go back out again within 48 hours (the legal minimum), then it’s not the job for a married man… Or at least a man that wants to stay married.
Unless their partner is a total bat, they can’t abide their neighbours, have no desire to watch their kids grow up and have no concept of living a real life, I could never understand anyone wanting to spend protracted periods of time away from home and certainly not 12 days at a time, on a continually ongoing basis. That aint no life for anyone.

It is for them who are happily doing 3-6 week away at a time doing euro work as I am writing this. If it was that bad a job doing Euro work then the papers would be full of vacancies for euro drivers.
Just because it’s not your cup of tea doesn’t mean there are no folk out there who doesn’t want to do it. Euro work I guess is a fantastic way for say a young (or even old single person) to see a bit of the world whilst getting paid for it and maybe even have some good antidotes to tell folk after a few years of doing the job.
If my situation was different I would be looking for euro work definitely.

I would have assumed that the Sittingbourne euro work would be with the biomass side, had an interview assessment for that but had a better offer from Morrisons.
Morrisons was sub-£10ph last year when I asked at interview… Choice of 0215 or 1415 starts as well. I’d wished I’d known that sooner, as I wouldn’t have bothered. Since people start around the clock for warehouse driving type work, it beats me why a broader selection of hours never seems to be available?
iankav:
So the planner will park you up,losing him earnings?
They will give the agency driver, who costs them more an hour to run, more hours?
I don’t think planners lose anything by ‘parking you up’. Our planners are under pressure from management to cut costs-they don’t give a zb about drivers & their earnings. They do however love agy bods, they let them pick what jobs, hours & start times they want…
Good antidotes? If you want to inform folk of ways to counteract poisoning then fair do’s but I’ve never acquired such knowledge in all my years on the road.
Anecdotes mind, I’ve plenty of them!

Not sure when this was but the rate is now over £10ph and start times are offered in two hour windows all the way through both day/night, for example 2200:0001 or 0200:0400, 1600:1800. Works out at twelve different rotas!
Easiest job I’ve ever done and to be quite honest I take home slightly more than when I was tramping doing ADR tanks.
I love these posts theyre hilarious  I
m doing the steel atm at the dreaded stobarts. Just come back from a 3 week run… In 19 days out i did 13 cards, Most cards where 9-10 hours with an average of 7h30 minutes actual driving. i did 2 13s due to accidents where i had to divert/traffic. for most part its flat out on the limiter, 650km+ @ 84-87KM/h average speed :stuck_out_tongue: on the 6 days i had parked up i was still paid MORE than a 13hour shift at a tesco RDC. where it was my "free time" one of those 2 day park ups i caught the train into antwerp and went sightseeing like a tourist, gonna try Ghent next time. Parking up in Germany there are several very picturesque towns full of bars, cafes, restaurants, castles,History and friendly people. I even found a barrista coffee house where they grind the beans and serve your coffee on a silver tray for the princely sum of £2, 21 speciality beans i
ve managed 7 so far while surfing the net on the free wifi.
It isnt hard work but it isn
t you regular 0600-1900 job by far. You go when you load is ready, Rarely get an 11 off its usually closer to 18-20 off which means your start time can be anything from 0000-2359 for example last week i started at 0300. 0400. 1600,2100 and my last shift was 0100
People slag the pay but IMO the pay structure is grand I`m happy and have no complaints. My last job before stobarts was on tippers and i did 4 nights out, 70+ hours weekly and earnt a good wage. Now i earn a better wage for much less clean work
Thanks you`ve been a right laugh
Sound like a good touch stupidnoob if you don’t mind the load being king.
It’s still about by how much though surely?
Few of us are going to be coming from exactly the same background into our next jobs, so one must have a benchmark - that benchmark is the whole package converted into an hourly rate…
If you leave your front door on shift one of the week, and enter it again on the last shift (as a tramper) then if that period continuously away is say, 80 hours, then £520 per week is effectively minimum wage when given as an hourly rate - right?
If you are out 80 hours a week, and getting £12.50ph right through on the other hand, then that’s a grand a week - no complaints! - Just show me where it’s at!
It doesn’t matter what allowances you get, tax free elements and all that - It’s what it boils down to as an actual hourly rate that’s everything.
It’s the only way you can compare to otherwise completely different jobs…
As far as the actual work is concerned… I don’t give a ■■■■ if I’m driving, spud bashing, or washing dishes next to the boss - the hands of the clock go around quicker if I’m doing something than if I’m sitting in a restricted location (like an RDC waiting room) listening to a load of ■■■■■■■■ from people who like to make me think I’ve only “been doing it five minutes”…
I’m a flexible worker me. Just pay me for all the time I’m at work - that’s all. A good hourly rate gives you that incentive to be flexible and do any and every job that is clearly deserving of that premium hourly rate that you’ve earned from your abilities as a “get on with it” kind of driver…
what different 10 p/h -flat rate or 8 p/h plus 2p/h some bonuses???if this garantets. i was working in warehouse 5 years.we had about 6 pounds basic pay and pick rate -if good work ,can be about 3 p/h.total 9 pounds or more.
