Nice pics Ash , remember Wright’s/Roy bros well - he was a right miserable git while you were out taking pics did you ever take any of Swifty’s ? My dad drove one of their Transcons (TJL 562S) but sadly no picsNow this is where I give myself a serious kicking up the arse and around the room
As a lad of 15/16 I used to go for rides with some of Swifty’s men from Northampton. I clearly remember going with Graham Corkram, ? Raggatt (I knew his son Pete), and a big old boy whom I cant remember his name. Nice bloke but without sounding rude, he had a bit of a disfigured nose I think, or something wrong with the skin on his face. Real nice bloke though from “up north”.
Trouble is I cannot find any photos I took loads with my little Instamatic 126, especially with Corky. I remember us getting stuck out after being delayed at Shepton Mallett and me having to spend the night trying to sleep ontop of a load of bottles in the back of the tautliner! I could not get a wink of sleep and Corky couldn’t either as I kept tossing and turning and rocking the truck. Well you try sleeping ontop of a load of uneven bottle tops!
I reckon Corky’s Transcon was PNH 3R or something like that. Raggatt had a F88 and so did the other bloke (Jack I think?).
So NO Tony, the answer is NO I don’t have any Swifty pics to post, Sorry
Not to worry Ash , it’s just a shame that there doesn’t seem to be any pics of Swifty’s from that era- when they had AEC’s , F88/86’s ,Transcons etc. Sadly Corky’s no longer with us ,( you were one out with the Reg -it was PNH 2R) .Did many a trip to Babyshams at Shepton myself You may have been referring to my dad- Jack Hogarth ( a scouser ) & he drove an F88 (HVV 692N ) from 75 till march 78 when he got a new F10 (UDO 617S ) which i remember someone- was it you took a photo of it with my dad stood in front, but sadly that photo was lost
A bit of self indulgence. A few of my very favourite pics.
Partricks bought this F12 Globetrotter direct from the Motor Show. It was reputed to be the 1st Globetrotter to go into service with a UK operator.
I went to Oporto, Portugal in it as a passenger with driver Norman Gell. Pictured here near Madrid.
Not to be confused with Partricks, was Patricks Why did/do SO many people think these are the same company?
Cracking photo, taken on Kettering cattle market one Saturday morning.
M&B bought the very first 2 Scania 142’s in the UK. BBD 762 and 763X were driven by Spud and Maureen ex Patricks.
Great pic of a great British truck. Mick Bennetts Sedd Atki 400 with Rolls Royce 290 and boy did it go!
Someone mentioned earlier on this thread that they didn’t know ■■■■’s ran Atkinsons…
Scania 111. An iconic worktruck all dressed up with all the right gear. Roof rack, ladders, trims, horns, GB stickers and the all improtant continental headboard!
HAPPY DAYS OF THE 1980’s!

Jack Hogarth! Yes, that was him! Small world ay? Like I said previously, a real nice bloke. And yes, it was me who took the pic of him with truck.
Another one of Spriggs’ for you.
More excellent pics Ash definitely livened this thread up one of Partrick’s ex drivers -■■■■ Mitchell was our wagon & drag trainer @ Mothercare , remember Abbott’s always had nice turnout at northampton carnival & must have been about the only operator in the area then with Berliets , another nice pic of Mick Bennetts SedAk’ before he ‘updated’ the grill ,Used to live near Butty’s @ spencer Bridge Rd & as a kid & remember the yard off Countess Rd where all his old lorries were laid up , esp. remember a G reg. Scania 11O & lots of ERF’s , Albions & some vintage lowloaders -as ‘Butty’ used to run his motors into the ground then
; Gutted lost that pic like you say SMALL WORLD
Does anyone remember / have any pics of the bonnetted Volvo N10 that a guy called Dave? from Rushden built up and used to tow a low loader with. He did a fair bit of work for ARC moving their surfacing gear about.
It was featured in Truck magazine.
The last time I saw it was at an early truck race, either Donnington or Silverstone by which time it had been fitted with an extra axle.
Does anyone know what happened to it?
Cheers
Mark
Barricks along Overstone road in Northampton, had a coal & transport firm, I remember driving a tipper for them, done work for Phipp’s brewery taking broken glass away, also work for the council, picking up treated soil from Billing seweridge depot for a private customer who had a new lawn to lay, he had the load tipped out, and made sure he spread it out level, and sowed the grass seed, the lawn looked good enough to be a bowling green when it was cut, but he had one problem, later he had tomatoe plants springing up all over the lawn, he complained to the council, but they told him they could not stop tomatoe pips that pass through the human body into the sewage from growing, but they would not charge him for the plants, and suggested he carefully dug the plants out, and put them in pots and sold them for his trouble, but I think he was not too pleased!

Great trucks as I remember but … the most impressive thing in the top photo is the ‘Modulator’ CB antena on the mirror arm … the best twiggs on the market, cant get one over here saddly but when I had one in England it was the bees knees
Ref David Abott Transport, they eventually became Harborne Haulage when (Tim Harrison) Harborne rentals expanded into haulage as well as rentals and ran out of Doddington Road, Wellingborough which was also Earls yard before David Abbott went into it. Harbornes then went to Stewarts Road, before going pop.
Does anybody know what happened to Patricks Magnum drawbar (J1 PTL)?
Lilleys used to do a fair bit in Weetabix with a 4 wheeled Merc 18tonner and a Seddon Atki 18tonner, there was also Linwood Transport (Jason Wood) from Northampton who had a Steyr and then bought a Scania that he parked in the front of the Monk and Minstral pub in Isham one night!

Padbury, I remember them in 1965, I was always passing them when I worked for Fmc Brackley ( Fatstock marketing Corp ) they was formed by farmers, they did meat and had depots all over the place, Brackley did poultry, which was sold to Swanvalley chickens, then a chap who ran a poultry house at a villiage named Whitfield outside Brackley, I think his first name was Roger, the other was Fasenda, he then ran other houses the cotswold side of Banbury, he did well, was a hard worker, and always rewarded men who worked hard by his side. he purchased the chicken factory on the Buckingham road after Swan valley, he ran it until he retired, do not know what happened to it then.
The poultry company was and still is Faccenda chickens, were still going and are now one of the largest poultry firms in the uk,we did have other factories at Lymington,Hinton Nr Bath,Okeford Fitzpaine,Corby and Sutton Benger but it’s all done by Brackley,Telford and Dudley plants now.We collect from over 60 farms now going as far down as Honiton and over to Abergavveny
I remember my dad doing back loads out of tarmac corby to whitwick granite leicestershire in the 1960 s.They had a huge fleet of four and six wheeler ford thames traders.
Anybody remember Birds? Ran tippers on asphalt (Commers) early 70s
Theres a company just outside Bugbrooke by the name of Birds. I think they used to run tippers but these days they do railway trackwork.
