Old northamptonshire companys

Does anyone know anything about Monks International Transport ? According to some photos I have, the address on the cabs was Rushden.
They ran some lovely early F88’s, 110’s, an AEC (below) and even a Scammell Handyman!

This AEC photographed in Switzerland-early 1970’s. Check out the “bow” in the trailer!

Any ‘old’ Northamptonians remember this company?

I remember Linnells- then Spa? at Kings Heath, were they before that?

I thought they were just from Uxbridge, but I’m only working from photos such as these:

This same motor also appears on the Internet Car Movie Database, showing its part in the 1971 film, ‘Bullet’!

I’ve also found this motor on the internet - I think it may a Bubblepic, since it’s a scanned cutting:

Something at the back of my tiny brain tells me that Monk were associated in some way with what I think is a later firm, Monkton Motors of Uxbridge. Perhaps someone could confirm that or put me straight?

Thanks 240G;Lovely pics! The plot thickens…here’s another pic of the Scammell. The towns written on the trailer are UXBRIDGE (at the back) and KINGSWINFORD. Maybe they just moved around a bit

Here’s another pic of same Scammell; Not sure who took the pic, or where it was taken but looks like a driver compo somewhere…

Maybe i’ll start a Monks thread? I’d love to know more about the co…photos etc

hi
i think monks were in the calor gas transport yard in higham road rushden , or was it monkton motors? or were they the same company? was there any connection between these two companys and calor gas ?
cheers diesel

That’s right Diesel; Someone else mentioned the shared yard with Calor at Rushden. I seem to remember a construction co with the same name. Wonder if there was a connection? Brown lorries I think? Someone out there will know more about Monks…

hi ash.
i remember seeing eight wheeler aec tankers in calors yard this would be in the early sixtys, i was sure they were monkton motors, but i also recall seeing those f 88 of monks there too but at a later date. the plot thickens, by the way i loved your book .
cheers diesel

Does anybody know what happened to Partricks F16, E plate i think, Pete Osbourne from Rotherham bought it and did it up, but i haven’t seen it for ages

Bit of a lengthy delay; but here is the Partrick F16 “before and after” photos.

I spoke to the driver who had this F16… he said it went like at train and sounded even better… till the engine went bang… they had a recon fitted this lasted about eight months then that went bang… turned out it was the strait throw exhaust … sounded good but bloody expensive to run

The tilt and the Trunker together look just like the 1:76 kits of each which used to be available (maybe still are) from Langley Models. I wonder if they were based on the M.I.T. outfit? There’s a modelling challenge for someone!

I take it you are Brian’s son/grandson. I was sorry to hear of Brians passing always good for an interesting story.
NP Timber, Nagys& Pozerski if my memory is correct, two Lithuanians who came to the UK post war 40’s early50s, their yard now flats, always ran some interesting trucks. I remember them coming through Kettering with their Matador pulling a pole trailer with a tree trunk on it. I was going to say that I think one of them was saved, but I think that was by you. An interesting aside is that at Midland Pallets yard at Finedon Sidings ( I believe Frank Pozeski had an interest ) when David Bletsoe-Brown shared the yard, there was an old Barreiros Dodge tractor unit of N&P abandoned in a shed. When Bletsoe moved out the yard was redeveloped and I don’t know what happened to it.
