An old magazine cutting I was given
Cheers classicman , a few of our drivers left Mothercare for Butty’s on Texas , that was when ■■■■’s put ‘new’ lorries on contract work such as Linnels , Texas & Howard smith paper for 5 years, repainted them green- then ran em into the ground on general

Great thread this, I’ve only been in the county 10 years since we moved down from Birmingham so it’s great to see the history of the area
STEVE OWEN:
nigel lawman from finedon used to drive it for us then i had it after him, taught me most of what i know ( he worked for winslow years ago) now he is on lawmans buses out of kettering.
Nigel Lawman, living legend!
I’ve just left Lawmans after 5 great years, Nigel’s brother Rod owns the company. I’m still doing part time there, was in London on sunday with Nigel, Rod, and Roger Keech who I’m sure some of you will know.
Nigel is still going strong at aged 70, still working full time, splits his time between driving and spannering. He can still throw wheels about changing tyres and there’s not a mechanical job he can’t do. Had to comment when I saw his name appear, he’s one of the most genuine decent guys I have ever met, and yes he’s one hell of a teacher. He’s got some bloody funny stories from back in the day too when he was on Transcons pulling ingots.
Keep the pics and stories coming, this thread is a great read.
Brand new Scammell from the Royal Blue fleet, on display at the East of England Show, Peterborough.
hi gb1, my dad drove this truck and worked for royal blue for bout 25 years,i used to go with him to work when school hols occured. i loved it and met some great people. other firms i remember include abc dee im ,braybrooks .i remember that ■■■■ church boss of royal blue only brought british trucks until he purchased a volvo fl 10, about 1985 , it was silver blue, then got painted in A.B,R colure of all white.
royal blue used to have leyland marathon, roadtrain, erf,s ,scammells .then volvo,s and the final truck dad had was a daf cf until he retired . royal blue still going ,i beleive pete church runs it ,and has a scania crane lorry for specialist movements. great pics of all these old trucks and firms ,really good
Haven’t seen any of Chett’s Scammell’s or many of their other vast fleet on here. They must have run just about everything back in the day. Also, does anyone have any pics. of John Humphrey’s trucks?. Humph always had the biggest and the best in the '70’s-'80’s. I worked at both places and quite a few others back in those good old days…
Hi Guys,Bear with me as I am a beginer on trucknet.I have been looking and reading the forums.I do not know much about the trucking scne in norhants but I may have something of interest for you chaps.
In the 70s I worked for a company,Roy Bowles Transport,Hayes Middx. They were and still are involved in airfreight. The original company was sold to the Lex group, owners of wilkinson transport.I moved over with them.I was driving Ford transits in those days a job came in the company for a class 3 driver and I was asked if I would like to upgrade,I jumped at the chance. At the time Wilkinson had there own driving school based at the Higham Ferres depot(formally Townsend carriers)Myself and a couple of other chaps came up from London to do the 2 week course at H.F.We stayed in a hotel in the town and commenced our training. The school had a Ford D series 4 wheeler and a Scania 80 artic.Had a great 2 weeks and passed…I remember the instuctors there were 2 one I cannot remember his name but the other I cannot forget. His name was Sid and he had 2 artificial legs(I kid you not) Does any of this ring any bells with you guys?
Spent all my training in Northampton town and although I was taking the class 3 i did drive the artic.I spent most of my latter years on a frame drawbars never did get a class 1.This trucknet has sure bought back some memores for me.Retired now and living in Spain regards

Maybe i’ve missed 'em but i’ve never seen a picture of any of Clarks Transport Wellingborough fleet, here or anywhere else.
Drove for them for some years in a previous life in the 70/80’s, probably the best maintained and presented fleet in the county and decent to work for… all British, wouldn’t have a foreign truck in the yard.
Never did take any pics of my trucks over the years and a huge regret that is, i suppose its something most of us are guilty of.
W G Eales is another seldom mentioned, me first artic driving job.

Theres a picture of a Clarks Crusader somewhere on Bubbs Scrapbook Memories, not toolong ago.
Much obliged to me learned friend, many thanks for that.
Took me around 4 hours to work me way back and i’d all but given up hope but eventually found it…i’ve updated the thread with a little info about the truck and the driver in the pic.
Hi Juddian in your thread about Clarks on Scrapbook memories you mention Alan Dyke. He was later the fitter for David Bletsoe Brown, he then had his own garage on Finedon Rd Ind Est Wellingborough. Later he was fitter for KLM Taxis in Kettering. Last I heard he gone to live on a boat. His son Larry was/is also a well known fitter around Northants, with Scania I think.
