Albion - why do you insist on finding faults in everything I say !?
God forbid when you make a mistake!
I’ve not made any excuses or points that aren’t valid! Until you’re in that situation you can’t judge- and fortunately for you, it wasn’t you who messed up yesterday!
So… Well done you!
Come on you say your car is speeding up because its an automatic and that is why you are going over the limit.
Tell me that is not a silly thing to say? The solution is simple. Use the foot brake to slow the vehicle.
It’s not hard. Is it?
Don’t worry though you are certainly not the only one to make excuses. Most drivers are never wrong. They always blame something else.
Personally if I make a mistake which is rare because I concentrate when I am driving I will admit to it and take whatever comes to me.
While we are at it maybe you can answer me a question? Why do so many women (especially younger ones) drive far too close to the vehicle in front.
It used to be men that were bad for that but now I reckon women are just as bad if not worse. Of course the day they do run into the vehicle in front they will find an excuse for their poor driving.
Bluey Circles:
Over inflated tyres may make you speedo show a slightly lower speed, but the differences would be minimal and I doubt you could over inflate them to the extent where you would be unwittingly speeding.
FTFY…
I’d certainly doubt that you’d be able to over-inflate them to the point where you’d be speeding enough to go over the ACPO’s 10%+2mph prosecution guidelines.
Ha Ha, yes, I worded that the wrong way round, although the context of what I wrote was correct that over inflated tyres would give an increase in road speed, but I think we both agree that increase would be so minimal that it is unlikely to make any significant difference.
30mph +10% + 2 = 35mph an increase of 16.7%
car tyre 225/50 R17 = radius of 328mm
so you would need to increase the space between rim and road by 2 inches - would certainly look odd, LOL
And I still think manufacturers like these inaccurate high reading speedometers/mileometer as it gives an impression of high mpg.
If (and a big IF) you get a Notice of Intended Prosecution, declare who was driving and wait for the official notice to come in.
Then it will be two options, driver awareness course (if you have a clean licence) or 3 points and £100 fine.
Don’t bother contesting as it will cost you loadsa money, just roll over and take the hit.
If you don’t hear anything within 14 days of the event, then they are unable to do anything further.
It is a learning experience, we all make mistakes from time to time, the worst thing you can do is stress about it, this will make you worry even more and it becomes a vicious circle.
As for speeding, the flashy speed sign is just that, it tells you your speed. Like others have said, speedos read high so you will always be doing less speed than indicated. (unless you have smaller wheels fitted).
I use these signs to cross check the speedo and soon work out what the difference is.
On older vehicles this is true but on the latest vehicles they are far more accurate.
EG My wife’s Mini Cooper shows 31 when doing 30. A lot of others are the same now so beware.
ROG:
How about taking measures to prevent this sort of thing happening again
Perhaps by investing in an advanced driving course by the IAM or RoSPA
Your local group will be willing to give you a FREE assessment drive if you ask them with no obligation to take up the course
Great idea Rog. Applies to a lot of drivers but most do not want to pay the money and most think they do not need it as I I sure you know.
Should be made compulsory.
The speed awareness course is for speeding. You may be offered a driver awareness course which is different but depends on if it’s offered by the local force. The length of time the light was red makes no difference to the penalty - it’s still the same offence after 1 second as it is after 1 minute.
A NIP is the letter they send to the driver and the FPN is a penalty for the offence. I think you’re misunderstanding what the two are.
I’m guessing by other forums you mean Pepipoo as I’ve had problems with verification on there lately too. You should still be able to read old posts of people in a similar situation to you.
Stop panicking as you won’t lose your licence or your car. Expect a rise in insurance if anything comes if it but from the description it doesn’t sound like there’s s camera there anyway.
Take it as a lesson learned.
Oh, they also have to notify the registered keeper witching 14 days of the offence so if you’ve heard nothing after 2 weeks then you’re ok. (Providing the cars registered to you)

Brilliant idea Albion1971, as I didn’t sit an original test and got my licence from a cracker!
As Rogsaid,The IAM or ROSPA is a great idea, you will most likely improve your driving as well as your fuel consumption. There are fringe benefits like cheaper airport parking and good car hire and lease deals. The O.P. should stop worrying until she gets a letter from the ministry.
The bit I don’t get is going through the red light having been ‘distracted’ by someone on the crossing. IE if someone is on the crossing you’re still supposed to stop even if it’s green not keep going.
While someone on the crossing is a good clue that the light is probably red or flashing amber. Even as is so often the case the light is hidden above the roof line of the car because, unlike the French,we’re too tight to pay for low mounted repeaters on the post.
And trust me with a traffic light offence being one of only two ( the other was 83 in a 70 ) in almost 40 years of driving, the result of a copper nailing me for crossing an amber light, you really are better off with cameras at lights not coppers.

Believe me - I have asked myself how the person running across the road didn’t make it obvious
However, this woman was running across the road as tho she was simply tryin to get across ( and not use a crossing / if you know what I mean ?)
The majority of the time people will walk across those crossing. Not run frantically
I don’t even think she was crossing on the pedestrian; it was a little but after it
I must’ve had a blank moment -
Wasn’t my finest or proudest few seconds in my life I must say.
