Longline Daf XF Super Space Cab caught on camera

People forget that the gearboxes, prop shafts etc aren’t designed for this kind of power and within time all these guys uprating their scanias will never be away from a garage with problems. Trucks now days are more than capable of pulling a trailer fully loaded up pretty much any hill, yes it may struggle but it gets there and thats why I don’t see the point in these. They say it gives you better fuel returns but your actually making everything work harder so how could that be.

Fair comment scot. I had my 380 uprated to 440 and it was good as gold but i could of just been lucky

Thats no problem as the gearbox etc. was probably fit for up to 460 hp. You start adding 200hp to a truck thats already running at its full potential and you will eat clutches, snap prop shafts overheat on long pulls, drink fuel and if you dont eventually run out of brakes some day cos you’ve cooked em blow the ■■■■■■ to bits. Friend of mine had a 580 scania and had it chipped up to 680 and most of the above happened to him.
When mercedes brought out the black edition 1861 he was thinkin of gettin one untill they told him the torque was the same as an 1858?
The sales man told him the gearbox and clutch wouldnt take the extra torque so it was restricted :exclamation:

A couple of brothers round the corner from me have a black edition, there was talk of chipping. God knows why.

My old 530 that fat boy drives was chipped up to a 620 and its good on diesel and reliable etc, i think as long as you dont add more than 90/100 bhp to the original bhp of the engine you will be ok.
Going off course to the original post(!) that Daf that i started this thread with would do me a treat as i can be away and living in the truck for up to 5/6 months at a time. Shame its not a left ■■■■■■ and a 4x2 and running on Mega spec…

Does anyone have any pics of the inside of these big DAF’s ?

hi all just lookin on ebay that daf is on still with no bids but theres a lovely looking xxl man nothing added apart from a decent paint job. Is the interior on that daf still bare last time i saw an interior pic it was just mdf units stuck up?

Saw this DAF on the A1 near Leeming at the beginning of Sept - driven by a bloke, but there was a baby asleep in a kiddies seat double manning!

TC

got article about it some where

right, this is all from memory, (and its not what it was)

the blue extended daf ssc, think 1 of the mags ran an article on it, think it was a couple had it built, too their own spec, work was carried out by an outside firm, (not daf), and sure they said, they could, and would, if required, do it again.
if i’m right, also heard, the original owners, have since sold it on.

does the black and gold, longline scania, still run out of felixstowe docks■■?

also, going, years back, possibly, early too mid 80’s, think there was an article in the mags, on a scania that had a mad conversion done on it, with, a sort of extended hight american look too it. think the interior, was all cream leather, and red velvet/velour, and the bed, looked more like a chaise lounge, (say it in a french accent, it works)
the exterior, was smart, it had a lovely blue paint job, started very dark blue at the bottom of cab, and as it went up too the roof, the dark blue, faded, in shades, too a silvery blue, at the top.
think, it may have been nicknamed, something, like, millers mansion■■?

i could be wrong, on any of the above!

sorry.
ignore the bit in my above post, regarding the stretched daf.
i didn’t realize this topic, is now 4 pages long, and at the time, i’d only read the 1

but it is saturday night, and i’m on the brandy

Saw this DAF pulling into Morrisons Wigan around a month ago… Just the Unit no trailer.

it not the one used by CDC for the shows is it? that has had a larger cab conversion and is now painted in a cream colour with artework on it, iirc, the interior on that one is cream/red

it is the one on the front cover of the catalogue, it is called “The Leading Lady”

The CDC one is different and was on a “G” reg plate and run by Graham Cordiner from Aberdeen area in the early 90’s. The blue one was Dave Miller’s and on a “A” plate which was converted to a wrecker by NYK down in Kent.

it’s NYR (Niel Yates Recovery)

My mistake, thought it was a K when seeing it travelling the other way.
