The standard SSC is a roomy cab so I reckon in that extended cab it’d be a route march to the wheel in the mornings.

On the subject of big cabs does anybody remember the Two 142’s that used to runaround on boxes with big extended cabs.

The cabs must have been extended by 2-3 feet and had a kenworth aeroydyne type roof extension. Also the steps up to the cab were all fibreglassed in with swirly steps.

There was a tatty looking red one and a tidy blue one that I think had " Fred Flintstone haulage" or something similar on it.
Rumour had it that the red one was involved in a big RTA on the M40 in 2002 but have seen the blue one on the M25 a couple of years ago.

Cheers

would this be the one?

it was photographed at Truckfest 2007 Peterborough

I know this is a long since the post but i have seen a Scania on the A34 hauling boxes with Fred Flinstone on it, cant remember how old it was but a 4 series IIRCso more than likelt a replacement. I remember the original ones, used to see them a lot when i used to travel up and down the A34, i seem to remember them both being red at one point but i could be wrong.

the blue 142 was d f millars heres the link to the post i put in the oldies forum about it

That 660 Scania is owned by the same bloke that has the stretched Daf. The Scania will be chiped, but has a long way to go to beat this Scania, pushing out 750 BHP

Also heard that Sandy Kydds 580s are uprated to 720 BHP

Some pics on Euro Wheels - here’s one:

elricks transport are based in arbroath scotland, they do continental fridge work out to mostly france and germany, think they have 2 or 3 motors working now, norman elrick (thats his truck in pic) lives not far from me and yes it was chipped to 660 but has been reset to 620 so am told. yes some of sandy kydds motors were indeed chipped to 720, jg riddell had some of his chipped to 720 but reset them after a couple engines went bang,

The rumour at Uttoxeter truck show 2008, was that the ‘Shrek’ Scania, at the time owned by N A dalton was running 740 horse, and had been through 3 gearboxes.

right, this is all from memory, (and its not what it was)

the blue extended daf ssc, think 1 of the mags ran an article on it, think it was a couple had it built, too their own spec, work was carried out by an outside firm, (not daf), and sure they said, they could, and would, if required, do it again.
if i’m right, also heard, the original owners, have since sold it on.

does the black and gold, longline scania, still run out of felixstowe docks■■?

also, going, years back, possibly, early too mid 80’s, think there was an article in the mags, on a scania that had a mad conversion done on it, with, a sort of extended hight american look too it. think the interior, was all cream leather, and red velvet/velour, and the bed, looked more like a chaise lounge, (say it in a french accent, it works)
the exterior, was smart, it had a lovely blue paint job, started very dark blue at the bottom of cab, and as it went up too the roof, the dark blue, faded, in shades, too a silvery blue, at the top.
think, it may have been nicknamed, something, like, millers mansion■■?

i could be wrong, on any of the above!

you’re not thinking of this one are you?

also, this is graham cordiner’s

nice 1 kev, that is the 1 i remember, from the article way back, cheers!
