I was just checking that you were paying attention Rob !
These are new! Argentina’s a bit of surprise, too. Robert
Don’t know if you’ve seen this one before Robert as it’s in the desert but not engaged in strict haulage? Marathon in VSD journal’s colours during the 1980 Paris Dakar, at the time when other entrants included a Rolls Royce and many diminutive Renault 4Ls
Craig
From another angle, the same truck.
And another one, this time from 1982
Good heavens! I didn’t know Marathons did the Dakar rally (I expect I knew at the time but didn’t think much of it!). Great pics too, Craig. All French-registered, so highly likely to have TL with 9-speed Fuller
Cheers, Robert
Thought that might surprise you Robert. I’ve got a feeling it’s the same truck in the latter photo, the registration wouldn’t help as the plates changed every time a vehicle was taken out of its prevous departement. Will have a look on the French forums for more info re. the powertrain

Yes mate, spot on! I think there is another picture of it on this thread. It is Dutch-registered. Robert

No details, but someone might recognise the Reg.No. EDF 378Y. Chris
Ex Dutch tractor sold to the UK, converted into a wrecker, then converted back into a tractor unit.
I bought this one off Steve Greenwood and drove it back to Holland. Where I took off the cab to put on my Marathon.
The remains got scrapped.

Nice bit of history, Rene! Here’s the pic again (as it was a few pages back). Have you still got your Marathon, by the way? Robert

Here’s a picture of the Lorlev Marathon. I was there in 2004. It got scrapped…
Thats the one!! I tried to get a photo as i was passing but never managed.
Shame it was scraped, looks fairly solid in the photo.

It was indeed one of the better Marathons I found.
But the owner wanted a small fortune for the old girl.
Keys were missing and I couldn’t get it started.
End of story!
Adr posted this one one the '80s thread a while back. It’s very nicely presented but apparently it was destroyed by fire. Dunno what the driveline was. Robert
