Hello
I belive the Smiths Bros wagon in this photo is an H & ME Fearon, is that right?
Kindest regards
■■■■■■■■ GillThe chap in the shot looks like it is Harry Fearon,in his younger days, and the BMC van is Norman Dowell’s,further along are two of Robsons Traders.I wonder if anyone knows where the photo was taken ? Wigton maybe ? Cheers Bewick.
Hello Bewick
The photo was taken at Wigton Market in the 1960s, but I have since removed it because I discovered that it was copyright of Leyland600, which I didn’t know because it was on Ebay.
Has anyone got any photos of Fearons Smiths Lorries?
Kindest Regards

Cracking shot that Steve, brings back a lot of memories for me! Did Normans D1000 have a two speed axle ? The one I had did and that made it a good motor, high 5th to high 4th then back to low 5th,the ■■■■■■■ could pull like a train !! Cheers Dennis.

Actually “george” we did do a bit of sub-contracting for H & M.E. in the early 70’s,we used to pull some of their 20ft skelly’s between Trafford Park and Mealsgate at busy times, and if we had a motor available.I always enjoyed a “crack” with Harry and John, great Marras,as “dry as sticks” with their ■■■■■■■■■■ humour which would seem sadly lacking in that neck of the woods to-day !! Cheers Bewick.

Hello everyone
Thankyou to georgeking, Bewick and stevedaff for there posts.
georgeking, Yes, I’m sure there was something in the paper that John Irving had died.
Thankyou also georgeking for your interesting post on the history of H & ME Fearon and your comments about my self. I am looking seriously at going into haulage and running my own business and you never know, I might become the next Eddie Stobart of ■■■■■■■■

Hi ■■■■■■■■ Gill,
Well,…Eddie Stobart look out !
If you need some advice in starting your own business , then 2 locals
to help you would be :
" Bewick ", as Transport Manager . You say you look up
to his success.
" georgeking ", as Business Manager . His knowledge of local competitors
would be advantageous for you.
However , I do think that youd have to
ditch` your Fiat Punto as your Executive Car.
Good Luck on your “Mission” ! Maybe Sir Alan Sugar will take an interest in your venture.
Regards,
cattle wagon man.

Well “CG” I think I might just have the ideal motor for a keen young fella like you to get started in " Delivering Sustainable Logistic Solutions" it’s only had one previous careful lady owner driver from new,and I’ll tell you what,I’ll even throw a repaint and re-lettering in with the price as you don’t want to be seen dead at the wheel of a motor bearing the Fleet colours of a “no mark” haulage contractor of yesteryear do you marra !!How will you be paying,Cash,HP,Lease or Contract Hire ? Pip Pip,Bewick.
Hello everyone
Thankyou to georgeking, Bewick and cattle wagon man for there posts
georgeking, Thankyou for the advise, your proberly right, but I am still keen on the Haulage Idea
Bewick, Like the model marra. Somehow, I don’t think I’ll get very far as a International Haulier with that ! (I’ll have HP please)
cattle wagon man, Thankyou for the support marra. I can maybe drag Bewick out of retirement to be my business partner and georgeking as the Transport Manager!
Alan Sugar, Here We Come!
For everyone whos interested, I’m looking at going into Biomass Logistics & Timber Haulage and running a smart fleet with a livery consisting of Red (Post Office Red), Green
( Light Green) & Gold Lorries (I hope). If it worked out, I would love to expand and I maybe one day, I’ll get to 15/20 Lorries or even 2,850 like Stobarts!
Kindest regards

When I started with my first motor “CG” all I was bothered about was where my next load was going to materialise from, and where it was going to! You seem to have got that sorted, carting wood chips and timber and, quickly skipping over the mountain you need to climb to put a second motor into service( assuming you manage to get the first one that is !),you’ve barrelled straight through to running at least 15/20 motors ( I’ll ignore the 2,850 crack!!) I’ll give you 10 out of 10 for the “Dream” and I wish you well in your future endeavours,If the various Bank Managers in Wigton have read your post they must surely be ■■■■■■■■ themselves by now !! But,of course, your hero “the fast one” put his bankers that far into “the hole” they couldn’t climb out so they had to ride the “whirlwind” to the end of the line !! Anyway, your Red and green livery dosen’t sound very up to date,so why don’t you consider a Red and White colour scheme,I’m sure Viv Lightfoot wouldn’t mind !! I’ll look forward to seeing a shot of your first motor on the TN site (if Im still compus mentus that is !!) Brm! Brm Pip Pip Bewick.

Hello Bewick
Red & Green might not be up to date, but its the right colour scheme for success
Whats so special about Lightfoots livery? Yes, its eyecatching but I think Garners is better
Anyway Bewick, you should know about colours and success because of your smart Red & White livery. It did you good and it could do me good aswell!
Kindest regards
CG
P.S Since you think the bank manager won’t lend me money, How would you be interested in having a 50% share in a start up Hualage Business?
Come on Bewick, Put your Money Where you Mouth Is! I’m honest and a good worker and I think we could be good business partners
.
georgeking:
What a brilliant idea young Thomas Matthew Gill and Dennis Smith will make a great partnership, I suggest a red and white livery and the name of this new business - BEWICKBefore starting this venture you should both read about Bridgewater Associates.
Flattery will get you nowhere “george” as you know as well as I that the opertunities for an uneducated individual being able to build up a thriving transport operation to-day,are non existant or at best slim, and Slim has just left town !! The whole industry is now firmly in the hands of the “number crunchers and asset stripper investors” Now,of course, a collaberation of Master Gill and “georgeking” and you would be talking, fair enough,as and when you were in need of a Non exec. Chairman well that would be a job I could manage !! If the T & C’s were acceptable of course ! But as for your suggestion and master Gills previous generous offer I would have to gracefully decline, with the following quote “don’t ring me I’ll ring you” Cheers Bewick.

Hello georgeking
An even better name, BewGill Logistics !
I’m sad to hear Bewick isn’t going to take my offer up
Is there anyone out there who will take the offer up for a 50% share in a start up haulage business?
Kindest regards
