Hello
For a while now I’ve been interested in John Irving’s smart wagons from Mealsgate, ■■■■■■■■ which saddly aren’t around in the numbers they used to be. His smart, green tankers, containers & curtainsiders, pulled by Scania, Volvo, MAN & DAF trucks. I think they hauled out of Marchon in the 1970/80’s and Pentagon Chemicals (Workington)■■?
But, I don’t know very much about them, so if anyone can help, that would be fantastic. Photos, info & crack will be great.

Great pics lads, remember Irvings very well, always well turned out with one of the smartest livery’s.
Loved the pics of the 86s and the Fiats.
Who were the Irvings that were similar livery, but just plain white with Irvings in red. Was this the same firm.

Seeing as none of the “marras” have explained what seems to be a mix up,thought I better had ! The origional firm was H & M.E. Fearon,Harry Fearon had started up as an owner driver with a 4 wheeler Commer on “A” licence. He steadily built up his fleet throughout the 60’s/70’s and John became Harry’s righthand man/Manager during this time.So when Harry decided to divest himself of his haulage interests who better to take over than John !! The livery remained the same, only the name was changed. The F86’s and the Fiats were part of the H & M.E. fleet,Harry was a big fan and user of the F86 tractor units and I think Burnholme Transport of Penrith would buy many of Harry’s old F86’s as he replaced them with new.The other Irving you mention “Gunner” is from Longtown and didn’t have any connection with John,as far as I know.Cheers Bewick.

CG, Irvings of Longtown were nowt to do with Murrays, Irvings ran a decent little haulage business until yer pal fast Eddie put them out the Box
in the late 80`s, more or less closed them down overnight. They plodded on for a while but were never the same again.
