It’s clear what Ukraine wants. All of it’s territory back. End of war. Security from future invasion. Simples.
But what does putin want? he hasn’t actually made any clear concrete claims other than:

He has said Ukraine has to give up the terroritory it’s lost so far, but also give back any it’s taken from Russia. And for Ukraine to forget joining NATO or should that now be WETO as clearly the US has cleared out of nato.
So yous saying Ukraine doesn’t want peace, that’s empty. That’s intellectually challenged. Ukrainians hardly want to keep dying when they’re not freezing or starving or bleeding.
Of course they want peace. But putin has yet to offer even clear terms, let alone acceptable terms. And now since the US has clearly turned off military support, putin can now afford to be even more vague and slimy about his demands. He is the one that doesn’t care about his soldiers or civilians. Just rent more from North Korea on the never never card at a shilling a week.
In a fair fight between gentlemen boxers, if you knock your opponent down, you step back and let the ref count.
But this isn’t a fair fight. Putin is incapable of gentlemanly conduct, it’s an anathema to his culture of lie, cheat and stab everyone in the back. If Ukraine and their allies say OK, putin back to your corner for a break, instead of let’s get the ■■■■■■■ while he’s breathless and bleeding. Only one thing will happen. While putin is resting in his corner, he will be stuffing a cast iron anvil into one glove and some fine pepper on his other glove. He will come back fighting even more dirty, with even more desire to win at any costs.
The west needs to make putin bleed hard enough and long enough for some of his own team to decide to tie his laces together and push him over. He is a liability and will eventually fall, but the longer he stays slugging it out, the more damage he causes.
