Busy Mr Trump

I knew a driver who used to take a 40’ trailer full of unboxed pizza’s from the UK to Italy every week. When he got there he picked up the trailer that he had left the previous week, which was full of the pizza’s that he had delivered. Only this time they were boxed. Doing this allowed the company to officially declare that they had been “imported from Italy” which meant that they could be sold at a higher price. I don’t know how many pizza’s you could get in a 40’ trailer but clearly it was worth it.

The point of this story is that businesses will always find a way to circumvent government rules and regulations. Tariffs are headline grabbers, nothing else. And Trump knows this. More smoke and mirrors.

IF COMPANIES MOVE TO THE UNITED STATES, THERE ARE NO TARIFFS!!!

I have to say, except for it being a tad long, that was an excellent speech by Trudy. Makes me think he’s plotting for his re-election now instead of throwing in the towel.
Interesting times ahead, what will trump’s next move be.
That’s unless this all is some massive, cunning plot by all the world leaders to become permanent despots and forget any pretence of elections. And if you read and understood Orwell’s 1984, you’ll see my point.
Starling for one knows his tenure as PM here is very fragile. The British voter is so fickle, the fascists here are fast riding up the outside, just as they are in Italy, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. So the present lot are thinking, what on earth can they do to hold on to power.
A nice manufactured world war is just the ticket. Short term it justifies martial law, which then sets in long term as the enemies keep switching around. One minute we’d be against Russia, the next America.
(maybe I shouldn’t read 1984 so much and instead borrow robroy’s stash of curvy nekked lady mags)

:joy:
I read 1984 at school actually,…I also read a few of those magazines at the time.
At 16 though difference was that it was the latter that made my imagination run away with me …not the former.

Canada has a Federal Gov and also State Governments. They also have some tax and fiscal tools at their disposal.
Ontario is raising taxes on US goods, distributors are stopping some US imports totally, a Starlink contract worth $100 million to the US and Musk will be cancelled. Electricity supplies to the US could be hit.

I liked the line
“Canada and Ontario did not start this fight,…never start a trade and tariff war with the US, but you’d better believe we’re ready to win one”

Trump made a big speech last night, some of his lies are uncovered here in a under 5min video.

Doesn’t MSNBC know how to cut out background noise? Or to closet a commentator from it? Early TV knew how to do it.

An editorial decision to show the immediacy of the broadcast I guess?
An unnecessary one, also.

But the message is clear enough, even if the sound isn’t.

Justin Trudeau, of Canada, called me to ask what could be done about Tariffs. I told him that many people have died from Fentanyl that came through the Borders of Canada and Mexico, and nothing has convinced me that it has stopped. He said that it’s gotten better, but I said, “That’s not good enough.” The call ended in a “somewhat” friendly manner! He was unable to tell me when the Canadian Election is taking place, which made me curious, like, what’s going on here? I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power. Good luck Justin!

Trudeau’s term ends Oct 20th this year, but he can call for an earlier election under Canadian law.

Trump and fentanyl ?
The Canuks and Mexicans are to blame? And that is the current excuse for trade wars.
No surprise that Trump is talking bollox.

Most smugglers by far are US citizens who earn US$ by fulfilling US demand for drugs.

No ship Sherlock! I expect that most drug smugglers in the UK are UK citizens who earn UK£’s by smuggling.

It’s where it comes from that he (and many others) are attempting to stop.

And who should be responsible for US borders?
“The greatest military in the world” and “the greatest economy in the world” or their poorer less “greatest” neighbours?

The countries both sides of the border. Obviously you are arguing for arguing sake because that’s your character flaw, but surely even you see that?

Noooo Franglais arguing for arguings sake?
Surely not .

Agreed.
And how do partners seeking co-operation behave?

Your neighbours cat keeps ■■■■■■■■ on your lawn, you repeatedly ask them politely to make it stop. It continues. The crap is on your lawn but the source is from your neighbour. At what point do you (well , not you, someone normal lets say) either kill the cat or batter the neighbour either physically or financially?
