Your level of experience as a HGV / LGV Driver

Just thought it would be interesting to see in a poll, as per title, everyones level of experience, of being a HGV / LGV driver in this game. Please vote accordingly.

Interesting, because according to our wonderful government transport dept we are all assumed to have no experience at all and have to undertake driver CPC training. Or is it the money they are after? :imp:

I think you’re right and it should only apply to inexperienced drivers, but there ya go.

I have 20 + years of HGV driving experience BUT the nature of that experience is limited.

Experience in what
Types of vehicle, types of load, types of employment

Does a LGV driver who say, has 20 years of driving a 12 tonner flatbed have the same experience of one who has 10 years of doing just about everything

Regardless of what you say Rog, the driver CPC will not address it, it will not give a driver experience. Only time on the job will do that.

I did not realise that this was about the PDCPC

My apologies, I thought you were replying to my post.

As per my original post. If one was to be too specific then there would be so many options it would need several pages.

I agree. Experience in this industry is a difficult thing to quantify; furthermore, having experience is not the same thing as being competent, though the two are not entirely mutually exclusive.

i have lots of experience but am always willing to learn something new even at 51 yrs of age, some drivers go on about us older drivers but we remember when it was lots of handball 1cwt sacks ,ropes etc.when tautliners came along we thought we had gone to heaven  .so trucks and trailers have improved and with them the WAGES.but now i see it seems we are starting to go backwards and wages yet again are being squeezed,i dont want to go back to the days of slogging it all week just to earn a wage that just keeps you afloat, thats not living thats existing and its us the drivers who suffer 1st.we should try and keep up our wages even if it means no increases for a while, but never a pay cut, think of this,if your wages are cut when you ask for an increase you may be told you have managed so far on what you have and the answer will be no…i see innovate is interviewing its drivers on a 1to 1 basis, thats a way of divide and conquering, all the drivers should be seen together so they can discuss the matter together,1 man on his own is vulnerable

I’ve only got around three years experiance(2 years C class one year C + E), but in that time Ive worked flat beds,curtain-siders,tail lifts,de-mount boxes, wagon & drag, box trailers, fridges, double decks. Agency work certainly does give you a good cross section of work within the industry,I must say that most of my training on these jobs has been self taught with common sense.
Most firms tend to just throw you the keys and expect you just to get on with it,not in all cases mind.
I think the CPC’s will definately will have its uses

No big truck experience, I’ve driven a 6 cell prisoner ■■■■■■ lorry on my driving licence, I leave the big stuff to you fine chaps/chappesses on here

Of course it will have its uses. It will raise revenue for the government. Can’t think of anything else though.

what use will the cpc be? non

its an attendance only coarse so long as you go you get the ticket, you are all going to be told how to do your job by some reading out of a book!!!

told how to drive more fuel efficiently, i,ve got a right foot for that when you have a timed delivery and you been held up loading it fuel efficiency doesn’t come in to it, its just get there asap!!!

how to drive defencely! just drive on any motorway today you will learn more than any class room!!!

its just my thoughts now i will sit back and wait for the flack :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

So a lorry bus then :unamused:

Not as comfortable as a bus as they have hard plastic seats, and there’s no donkey rides, kiss me quick hats and sticks of rock at the end of the journey :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
