greenwoods shropshire truck show 2011
Nice photos Jonmea,
The Greenwood lads must put a lot of hard work into keeping that cab in top condition. ‘Hats off’ to them.
Looking forward to seeing the Tekno model versions of both Greenwood’s Scania and Longthorne’s Volvo.
Kind regards
Simon

I wonder if when it gets quiet on the livestock side they sub this vehicle out to the Esholt sewage works ,there`s a big plant there, i dont think it would look like that long on their tanker works

A few pages back someone asked for any photographe of Fred Greenwood & Son `s Leyland Retriever.
I took this photo about 6 years ago during a visit to their yard , with permission from Stanley Greenwood
Without wishing to cause any embarrassment to the Greenwood family on the contrast to their immaculate fleet , I am grateful for their permission to allow me to display this photo.

In January 1959 my father replaced his Ford 4D with this new Austin FE 5 Tonner, reg. no. FEC 731. A new livestock container , built by Smiths of Kendal ( NO connectoin to Bewick of Kendal s earlier trading name ! ) was fitted. Unfortunately, the Austin
s road springs proved to be too soft, and was about as stable as a pig on castors !!
After one year a decision was made to replace it with something more steady, and a new Austin FF 7 Tonner was purchased in September 1960 , reg. no. HEC 84. The platform and livestock body were transfered over.
As a result of FEC
being unsuitable for general haulage work, Raymond Bowman , ( of Hudson`s of Milnthorpe ) bought it and shortened the wheelbase, and fitted a tipper body, and used it to deliver bricks from Claughton Manor brick works, near Lancaster.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
