Hi Haydon Dan and Flordon Flounder, I have 2 photos of Ken Lane s Volvos. One is reg. no. BRS 593 T F 10 with drawbar trailer, the other is reg. no. GCT 431 W " Wandrin Star " with a 2 - axle 2 - deck ( calf ? ) container. There is no Copyright stamp on either photo so I might put them on here if it s O.K…
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Hi cattle wagon post away mate im new to all this game got some good photos of my own cattle trucks but like many others wish i had a camara with me in the old days around the livestock mrkts.

This is turning into a great thread. I remember when every farm had a demountable cattle box ready to go onto the straw/grain lorry. The livestock I carried didn’t last long, just long enough to get it back to Benny Websters for dogmeat, although most of it was winched on :frowning:

Hi there, I ll have to bribe the missus into helping me to post the photos on here, I m nobbut still learning on computers. Many years ago I used to offload calves onto Ken Lane s at various auction marts for Albert Hall Farms, and I can remember seeing his Commer shiny and new at Shrewsbury auction , 1967 or thereabouts. I too wish I d carried a camera with me because the cattle wagons of 40 to 50 years ago had individual style, plus there were many more to be seen. I know this thread is mainly for Yorkshire but no-one should mind if I include from outside the boundary.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

I am unsure who originally took these photos , but I hope they are O. K.

Sorry about the duplication, will try again

Another Woodhead Bros and a couple from Plowmans of York.

Was Noel Sleightholm a cattle man?

kevchall images

Hi Wheelnut, Thanks for putting up photos of Woodheads and Plowmans. I am unsure about Noel Sleightholme & Son being livestock hauliers, but someone will know. I have a photo of the DAF 3600 in the name of ARK TRANSPORT LTD. of Stroud, Gloucestershire, coupled to a 3 - axled turntable drawbar trailer. The colour of the whole outfit, I have been told, was pale PINK !!! I understand that livestock dealership does not exist now . The photo has a Copyright, so if you want to view , it `s on articulationpix.com site.

Hi cattle wagon man the Ken Lane drawbar outfit used to be driven by Brian Dixon and the artic was driven by Chris hagen he pinched the wanderin star from my old F89. Sorry i don’t have any old photos from that time as they went missing when divorces were happening.Although I do have some photos from runs i did to Russia and Kazahstan if anyone is interested.

HELP REQUIRED

Hi Folks,

Over the years there has been various publications about Livestock hauliers in both books and magazines. I’m pretty sure I don’t have them all, so if you knowledgeable folks can help create a list that would be absolutely fantastic. Extra points for any that include Livestock Haulage Companies based in Yorkshire.

i.e. Trucking International - August 1989 - Chris Waite

J & E Medcalf Ltd (Halifax) - DAF CF 410

Thanks folks.

Kind regards

Simon
