Hiya,
Does anyone remember Bayford’s they was at Hunslet in the early 70s doing at
that time fuel oils but also general haulage with both tippers and tankers I do
believe they went entirely onto fuels and opened several filling stations I did a
spell for them around 1971 permanent nights on the tanks best paid job I ever
had but having been on distance work nearly all my working life I got bored so
chucked it and went back on distance work having moved to the North East.
thanks harry, long retired.
Bayfords, Petrol Station were called “Thrust” and had a Concorde like Logo. They were based at Wetherby. We used to buy Petroleum Coke from them at Immingham. One of the big independents in the late 80’s.
Just looked them up and they are something to do with Certas (Weren’t they UK Petroleum / Oil Ltd)
I know this as when Hargreaves took over peppers from clowne uncle wilf was a major contractor and was offered director ship at Hargreaves but didn’t want it .

Found this link
I think Certas own them , we buy diesel from them on a regular basis and the bill comes from Certas
My old dad used to drive for quite a few Yorkshire hauliers, H Brown and son’s when old Mr Brown was at the helm. Wm Cooper of West Melton. Mason Bros of Rotherham. Pete Wilson was his name sadly no longer with us, boy could he tell some stories? Some of the other guys he worked with, Willy Gledhill ( we called him Willy whatnot) Ken Barber ( drove tankers) Harry Clarney of Mason Bros. He had an Effort with the 240 Gardner when he was at Brown’s then he got an Man.
R W Edwards morphed into Maru International, Ravensthorpe. It’s a fair sized operation now. Sunday afternoon gets very busy on Ravensthorpe, the Eastern European immigrants having their weekly street battle/riot (other immigrant nationalities are usually welcome to join in, bring your own machete ), And the Maru men setting off to Dover and Hull for the ferries.
grumpy old man:
Happy to be corrected. My apologies. Where did Maru originate from? the link for me was Ravensthorpe
Low Mill Lane, Ravensthorpe, feel sure Edwards had some connection with Maru maybe they just did some of their work, here’s the best photo I could find of Edwards pulling Maru trailer. Les.
