jeffreyk:

hiya,
Does anyone remember the name of the Bradford outfit that the infamous Yorkshire Ripper (Peter Sutcliffe) drove for, once saw a calendar in some traffic office somewhere and it featured the firm all i can remember he was in the driving seat or standing by a red articulated motor can’t remember the make or model, used to see them travelling up/down the M6/A74 frequently, go on say it “saddo”.
thanks harry long retired.seem to remember they were called Clarke’s but don’t remember them apart from as you mentioned, a well used photo of the [zb] showed him driving a Ford Transcon i.i.r.c
Aye, it was Clark
In October 1976, Peter Sutcliffe came home to his wife with the good news that he had finally found work as a lorry driver. He was now working with T & W H Clark (Holdings Ltd) on the Canal Road Industrial Estate, between Shipley and Bradford.
not to be confused with the other thorpes-alan
ernest thorpes was run by ann thorpe a woman who could swear like a trooper and lived in a bungalow next to the yard
this was a proper old fashioned West Yorkshire company. They ran a couple of 85 DAFs on tanker haulage. I had the pleasure of working with a true gent, Mick Bottomley didn’t follow in his fathers footsteps but was still involved in transport.
H Bottomley from Greetland

I knew old man thorpe in the 60s he looked like a cross between Rod Stewart and wurzel gummage and I think the daughter took over sometime in the 70s or 80s as a couple of their drivers used the same pub as me ( The Sportsman ) on Walkley Bank Road when I lived up there.
