anyone familiar with reg jefferies? jefferies of otley) My dad worked there for 8 years during the 90’s, at its peak they ran i think 25 artics and about 40 curtainsiders.with roughly a 60/40 split on uk, and european haulage. the economic downturn saw the downsizing of the company in the late 90’s and one driver who left set up and currently runs r c cooper transport, which to this day employes several ex jefferies drivers. jefferies is still in exisitance, and currently operate 4 daf tractor units, employed on a variety of work including deliveries for magnet trade. coopers used to run all scanias, but now have 2 daf xf 105’s 2 liveried scanias and 3 plain white r series scanias, ironically both are now based at riffa business park, situated between pool in wharfedale and a small village called huby.
prior to working at reg jefferies my dad was also employed by manton european freezer freight, another company that has dramatically downsized, but can still ocasionally be seen on yotkshires roads sporting a white livery.
Hi Joer.
I remember Mantons very well, they did a lot of subbing for Unigate/Malton Bacon and Wincanton at Maltby around 1994/95 time and then they disappeared.I remember there was female driver working for them but can’t recall her name and there was also a self-employed driver called Alan Scarborough,he had a Scania in Manton livery but I’m almost sure he owned it.He was a great bloke and I always wondered what happened to him.
can any body remember tom roberts transport from barnsley mainly ERF fleet

Hi Alan.
Sorry it’s not a Peter Davies book it’s Graham Edge’s "AEC Lorries in the post-war years 1945-1979 and it’s full of good stuff if you like AECs.It’s published by Roandoak Publishing,ISBN 1 871565 21 9.
If you want to borrow mine,no problem I’ll send it.
Chris

Hi joer. The Mantons girl was called Michelle,I remember her on the phone one day to Manton HQ when she was short in her wages, she told them she was going straight to the yard to get it sorted and if they didn’t like it they could shove the Scania, fridge box and next load where the sun don’t shine!! Shelley,I remember her,she drove for Wards out of MBF Malton, slim, blonde lass.Archie will remember her…'appen
Just a footnote,I seem to recall all Manton fridge boxes being on rental from TIP,the Manton photo shows the trailer number as 10-1765 which was a TIP type format.
cheers

Hullo Chris,
No she’s long gone, last time I was working (November) there were only five, maybe six motors working from Malton. Everything has been moved up to Middlesbrough, a good move as they are expanding as a Fleet again now. Even Dave has moved most of his stuff up there now. With a bit of luck I will be up there again in April. And before you ask, YES I will get you some photographs when I get there
And I may just ask Steve for a contact addy for her.
Cheers, Archie.
