Sounds like poor planning rather than higher demand.

Capacity has been cut, making the “race to the bottom” assumption that ‘the recession was always going to last forever’.
Talk about having your toilet door open whilst you still have your pants around your ankles!
A simple assumption to make, bearing in mind no manager or high-up will get sacked, fined, or jailed for such millions-wasting ineptitude.
If a rank-and-file were behind it all, “instant dismissal” is probably the entry-level punishment.
Yodel have got to be the worst parcel company in the history of time and this just backs it up. Dpd send you a text with a 2 hour time window perfect, even if your having problems with your parcel they have a dedicated twitter guy who deals with any thing straight away via twitter in a instant. Yodel you’re lucky if you talk to anyone if you have a problem and they chuck your parcel in your bin and hope you find it!
The only reason I think companies choose them is because of price they must be cheap as chips because it certainly isn’t their customer satisfaction.

Got it in one.
I never ever chucked a parcel over a fence. If the customer was not in, I tried a neighbour or returned it to depot

Completely agree, I had to go to there Reading depot once to collect an electrical item, and while I was waiting a gentleman came in and handed over his collection-card, the bloke on the collections desk, scurried out the back and came back with a box, which looked like it had been fired out of a cannon and then kicked around the yard for 2 days, and handed it over to the gentleman. As soon as the customer started to complain the yodel employee, just said, its not our fault take it up with the sender and walked off.
They truly offer terrible customer service.

Reading (Business Express) did not have a “collections desk” I know as I worked there and it would have been a lady from the reception staff that opened the door.

I used to work for home delivery network before it turned into yodel when I was a young lad, we used to be pushed to chuck things over the fence because it was quicker than waiting for a signature. I once got a slap (and quite rightly so) for trying to shove a dressing gown through the letter box! Halfway through the door swung open and slap! Wasn’t my best day at work.

Maybe the better service from DPD comes from the parcels being delivered by properly employed delivery drivers who know what they are doing, opposed to any self employed Tom, ■■■■ or Henrietta delivering from the back of their clapped out estate with a sat nav who have taken on more work than they can manage in an attempt to prop up their paltry wage.

I was served by a lady as I went in. I have included a picture to show the door I entered through (arrowed). The incident took place in May of this year.
whet we need is a parcels collection and delivery company with a depot in every town and village that was owned by all of us is accountable and reliable and maybe have the queens patronage we could maybe call it royal something or other oh wait a minute …

Same with me when I was there.
They got shut of their own drivers who knew what they were doing and hired subbies with a contract that ONLY paid you if you delivered it.
Glad I’m out of it

…which worked quite well until the bean counters took it over!
I mentioned this when delivering a FLT to Hermes depot in Kirkby, the lad in the warehouse said within an hour of this being announced their work board ( or what ever he called it) filled up with jobs instantly, he already said he was maxing over time out
The problem is a lot of the home shopping companies own a stake in Yodel and earlier this year Amazon took a 4.2% stake in Yodel so they’re going to use the company that they part own
Lot of ebay sellers now use argos as a collection point, works well providing you have an argos reasonably close to you, and avoids you having to wait in for your goods.
If UPS miss you, they take your parcel to one of those corner convenience stores, which can be a couple of miles away anyway.
Yodel are also the delivery service for the Tower Of London ceramic poppies, an extra 800,000 parcels on top of all the Christmas, Black Friday stuff etc. They are badly organised at the best of times, must be chaotic now!
Having done work for Citylink, I don’t ever want to use the postal system again. Not one of them gives a dam.
If ■■■■ Yodel are doing the Poppy deliveries, it’s no wonder they are being broken in transit.
We don’t ever buy anything in our house if it involves delivery by Yodel.
I go to a very wide variety of companies small one man bands and global and I am often amazed at the practices I witness.
Though yellow ice was often the case of icicles on the butter in the 80,s (the old butter mountain, Norfolk line did well out of it )
