I’m not personally after the job but ffs come on this has to be a wind up?
They want an experienced driver to pull special loads probably worth a lot more then your average 26 pallets of household essentials for less then a quid over nmw.
I hope no one lowers themselves to take it, tempted to ring em tomorrow and see what they think about ripping a skilled HGV driver off like this.
Co op used to pay £11+ph at Blenheim but I couldn’t do the weekends with kids or the silly start times no family life at all.
Just asking out of interest as I thought those guys would be on a decent crack.
I done a week on another firm last week. Not really big stuff but GVW was up to 60 tonne on occasion and loads were as wide as are allowed without being a wde load. Their drivers are on 8 pound an hour and even expected to change their own tyres if needed. I didnt know any company required that these days. I will post some pics asap. The lads were also telling me how the recession hit the company and it went from being a decent gig to one that nobody wants now. The boss is regularly knocking 3 or 4 hours a week off each driver because they are waiting around and its not really work… i got my time sheets signed and got going !!! I wouldnt stand for that at all
Even the lads pulling 120+ tonne or 18+ metres long are only getting £8 an hour. Until recently they were taking new drivers (none of which ever have heavy haul experience) on and they were telling them not to tell the experienced and long term employed lads that they were on 8 quid as the lads already there were only getting £7.80 ph
It’s been a goal of mine to get driving trucks and one day be able to pull special loads/heavy haulage as I thought that’s what the really experienced truckers get to do, I also thought thats where the money is. I can scrap that idea then.
mac12:
You have got to remember that some drivers will work for that money because they get to drive a bigger truck than normal and the bosses no this.

Real heavy haulage outfits that get good work and pay decent wages don’t need to advertise there jobs cause it’s dead man’s shoes usually. That company sounds like a joke. Pay that and there never get any good at it there always be picking up the ■■■■ work imo
I think this company is struggling. I was on all week for them and got my usual agency rate. There is a guy who is a year from retitement working there who ui used to be good mates with but we just went different directions over time. He has been ringing me this week. The reason they had me in for a week was that they had a guy lined up to start monday 5am…he didnt turn in. I wonder why !!!
On a wages note i just been chatting to security guy at kerry foods in poole. He showed me his wage slips for last 4 weeks. Lowest was 347 take home and the biggest was 578 take home. Better wage than us lot if compared with hours against pay
The advert asks for experience then goes on to say “Experience with abnormal heavy loads would be advantageous”, so to me that looks like their prepared to train the right person. So if your young and keen it mite be the ideal stepping stone.
