Was wondering to myself on last night’s drive again…
Thought I’d ask what is peoples least favourite place to drive in the country? Not a particular road more the area in general, like a county/city whatever. And why… other road users or the road network etc…
Me not being a tramper I don’t have experience of anything much south of the M4 or North of Glasgow at work but covered all Scotland on bike.
For me it’s Birmingham, I’ll usually do whatever I can within reason to avoid it. I’m far from experienced in this job but some of the stuff I come across there is shocking lol. Even at like 3am the taxis are at it… Pruis sat in lane 3 at 40mph, which he’d probably happily to in rush hour
I would imagine more central London would be a common one with all the restrictions but thankfully never been and don’t want to.
Be interested to hear others
London, Manchester and Brum. All 3 are fantastic…in the rear view mirror
Bradford is pretty grim, due to the rudeness and ignorance of the other road users!!
Motorway wise, personally cant stand the M60, nearly always rammed. Also dislike the M6 through Birmingham J4-J9. Always rammed.
In a car, Im not keen on the M5 down to Devon during holiday season, nightmare of a journey.
Roads Ive liked are the A1 to Scotland, lovely scenery and was a nice drive.
Leeds is usually ok to drive through, though there are tons of city centre roadworks right now causing delays.
Regarding London, never been in a truck so cant comment. Id rather go there on the train than in a car if Im visiting, Im flying out of Heathrow this summer and still cant decide how to get there!
Never been a fan of driving around Bristol area.
Lot roads are narrow…and cars. Seem to like to double park on the roads.
I get into London once in while in the truck. Central London less common, but have done it.
Hate the place with a passion.
Sheffield for me, pain in the arse.

Reading ■■■■■. The place, not the act of perusing the written word.
Down A1 to Smithfield market to tip then having to take a 9hr rest parked up outside on street!!!

Probably Birmingham for me personally. I don’t have issue with the roads and find it easy enough to get around so no idea what it is. Maybe it’s the thicko accent? I dunno. I just know I hate the place

Leeds to…
Kings Cross on LNER is just over two hours. If you book far enough ahead, you can get 1st class for a snip and fill up on free booze if you go on a weekday. From KGX, I go to Paddington and get the Heathrow Express.
Happy holidays.

I used to do…
Two drops (Sainsbury’s Charlton/Thameside and Park Royal) and then into Brentford from Gatwick Airport every afternoon for years when I drove for Wincanton. I had no problems getting anywhere with just an AtoZ to guide me, without fear of being nicked for anything and that included the Blackwall Tunnel northbound. A recent thread on this site confirms my thoughts that it’s just not worth going there at all in truck. Cameras on yellow box junctions, cyclists with no brains and a death wish. Also there’s absolutely nowhere to park up and go to the loo or eat.
Keep it.

Once over I actually used to.love London …when you had actually the choice of parking places there, but that was before Genghis ■■■■ Khan took it all over with his anti truck policies and money making schemes
turning it into a complete cluster ■■■■ of a crap hole in terms of trucking in and around there.
If I never see the place again it will be too soon,.including most of the SE of England Essex Kent non parking areas, , where I used to regularly frequent,.when you could actually do the job in those areas with little aggravation.
Cardiff and Bristol…
The roads seem to be a race track and noone is patient with hgv’s trying to negotiate the city…
I come from Bristol and moved to Gloucestershire some time ago, I hate going there now, bloody taxis driven by loonies, flipping e-scooters and delivery bikes bombing up the inside of you…
Cardiff, they are just mental…

Things have changed… H&S most definately from this news clip especially when they all start crashing
THE UK AS A WHOLE
Cornwall & Devon in summer months…HGV’s need serious route planning, knowledge, and lots of luck regardless…
those that do, take my hat off to, as lanes get narrower the further you go sometimes… in the car was bad enough.
Usually the opposite vehicle suddenly realises they dont really know how to reverse more than 2 meters…
Work wise always too far… and glad

That is a normal road for me every week…I like a challenge.
Striving continuously to keep off You tube.
The UK
Brum can be a little tough but it doesn’t compare to London. We have a route that does Park Royal and Heathrow. Normally 5-7 drops.
You are having breaks on double yellows because of nowhere to park up, getting tipped is a job in itself with puddle jumpers coming in and out of every crevice. Not to mention the roads. You need your wits about you otherwise you are bringing a car along with you. They don’t seem to understand what a blind spot is so will quite happily try and overtake you on the outside of a roundabout. You need to be ultra defensive.
Seeing 5 miles on the sat nav with a 40 minute arrival time is quite normal.
London is a massive rat race and everyone is miserable. Whilst Brum and Manchester can be very busy the people are generally a lot nicer which makes the day better at least.

Thing like this do not really bother me. Doing farm deliveries etc is fine because you are in that situation and can sort it out within your own time. Having cars buzzing all around is a far worse situation to be involved in.
