i have seen a lot of hatred towards these fine folks, what is the reason, you need 5 o levels to get in that job.
Another thorn in the truckers side, they like to close motorways to pick up AWOL wheel trims and they kill innocent recovery drivers.
Pick up ratchet straps,several tons a year,apparently.

I haven’t got any O levels, and only a handful of lower qualifications. I had 19 years in an operational/customer service capacity instead.
Helped me out once, from a blow out,a good job by all, thanks.

I always try to help and not hinder, I’ve never closed a motorway, only the police have the power to do that, I just operate the closure for them, which is why I get the flack and not them and I’ve never killed an innocent person, only those that deserve it.
Only dealing I have had is when I snapped my propshaft and limped onto the hardshoulder on the new severn bridge 2 years ago, they appeared about an hour after I stopped took my name and telephone number and said they would be back later to check on me, I got recovered about 45mins after they left then I got a phone call another 4 hours after that asking if I was still there

I dont mind them really, just hate it when they bumble along in lane 1 and get under my feet
That gets on my nerves too. That’s why I always travel at 60mph. Fast enough to keep out of the wagons way (not the Irish naturally!! ) but slow enough to respond to anything on the hard shoulder carriageway.
Personally i have no problem with HATO or VOSA think they conduct themself in a profesional manor and lets face it if it wasent for them there are a lot of operators who would sail very close to the wind where maintainence is concerned and drivers hours ect so come on give then a break guys !
I don’t have a problem with them either, they are only doing a job the same as us with little thanks and they are probably bound by as many rules and red tape that we have.
I don’t think I could deal with a lot of the brainless car drivers out there and keep a civil tongue !
Hi all,
I work Incident Support and I can say I work 95% with them.
True, at first, I had my opinions clouded by others about them and over time I have formed my own opinions.
The section of the network I patrol has a real need of them. Big time. They are the first responders to a scene, calm the motorists down, ask what the driver needs and then decide if the Incident Support Unit is needed.
But before we get into HATO bashing, we must look to ourselves as drivers.
HGV wise over the last 6 months I’ve had:
3 HGV’s run out of fuel
2 HGV’s with battery problems ( one battery box rust through) the other years old batteries
untold locked on brakes, most due to lack of maintenance.
2 tipped over due to speed on roundabout
5 lost loads
blow outs and driver don’t know who to phone
1 out of oil
1 driver lost and just stopped on hard shoulder and gets hit
and the list goes on
Yep, HATO, VOSA, the UK Border Agency and the Douanes no problem, very helpful and friendly people and forgiving of minor errors, the only agency I have ever had a problem with is the Police, who I invariably find to be confrontational, snide and aggressive. It is said that people who were bullied at school are attracted to Police work and I can quite believe it.
I could never unterstand why there seems so much hatred, but I’m sure some one will be along to explain it.
Not hard to understand why they’re hated when some of them used to be traffic wardens beforehand. And that’s just 1 of about 100 reasons I could think of. Bunch of [zb]s the lot of them, just like the police, VOSA, HMRC, council officials and anyone else that has a label of “authority”. Roads ran 1000 times better before them so then can [zb] off afaic.

I don’t mind VOSA, if my truck is unsafe then I am the first person who is going to get his neck snapped so I don’t mind knowing about it. I have never had a problem with them at all. As I see it, VOSA protect me from bent-running operators.
Never had a problem with HATO either, three or four experiences on the hard shoulder following a trailer blowout and they have been far more co-operative than the Police used to be when it was their job.

That is your opinion to which you are entitled.

Could we have your opinion on the x truck drivers as well pls ,
You know the many that have still got a valid c+e but would rather do something different (as well as a bit of agency on days off to really p*ss you off and take your work )
Are you unhappy about the exparamedics, BIB, military and recovery operators all doing the job as well (i would say working outside of procedures daily to save someone’s ■■■/ cash etc (if it wasn’t a disciplinary/sackable every time it was done ).
As mentioned further up a lot of work is tidying up truckers mess and f*ck ups, admittedly some of these are caused by ‘skateboards’ cutting in sharpish etc but it’s well known here how truckers like to convoy ‘for a good old bang the back doors in and cut out job’ .
Has anyone got access to the pictures published in some of the ‘literature’ which they can post up showing the shocking state of some of the trucks/deathtraps pulled by VOSA (and no they ain’t all foreign by any stretch of the imagination ) tootling about ‘possibly’ undercutting the more ‘professional’ drivers.

Police rejects. Only in the job for the power - fact.

There you go again - confusing your opinion with facts…
