Why did British Leyland fail?

Muckaway:
On the subject of Dafs, Dads’ 02 reg Alphas’ becoming a joke; Hardly a day this week’s gone by without a trip to our workshop due to the cab suspension. My reversing lights flicker on and off when driving on rough roads and there seems to be more rattles in the cab than before Christmas (it’s not my wages!)

Trust me the older ones are head and shoulders above the new ones we get em on 5 year lease and the 54 and 55 plates which were nothing special were much better than the new ones.ABS/EBS Warning lights, exhaust emissions lights auto transmission lights on we had 6 v.o.rd this week but the problem is that they go to the dealer come back and within a day or so the lights are back on again, all you get from the dealer is bring it back

I had one from new in 1976,a TL12 and the only problem I had was with the brakes. When that fault was rectified it was a great motor.I never had any wheelstud problems.

My dad had 1 with the 290 ■■■■■■■ in i wondered if the TL12 would have lived with it

AEC Marshall for sale if anyone’s interested; It has the later BL Badge instead of AEC Triangle. Restoration or spares, owner told me this morning he only wants the scrap value for it; it’s alloy feed body is in good condition…

If i win the rollover tomorrow night i will be down for it

I can’t remember which thread I mentioned this AEC over Christmas but (I think) Fryske PM’d me for details. I went to the owners farm today where the AEC was used as a grain cart for years but it’s been replaced with a…MAXILOAD

There`s a S reg Mandator for sale in Classic Commercials £2500 must be 1 of the last off the line at Southall

I think the thread title should be…“Why did British Leyland last so long?”…I have just completed the book written by Michael Edwardes, the unions had BL by the short & curlies, but during the 80’s that was par for the course within any industry, look at Seaforth Docks Liverpool, unions did the same…need I go on?

Take it easy,

David

Im in no way a union fan but they weren`t the designers and certainly not the decison makers , and there were certainly plenty of bad ones made.A stronger management would have been able to handle the unions
