Got what I wanted , employed & days ( though 23.00/ midnight / 1 am starts is stretching days a bit ) .

Gotta love it! [emoji23] I want days! I demand to be paid at the day rate (even if I have to work at night [emoji21])

So what is the correct mode for “■■■’s oot for the lads!”?
POA or crossed hammers?

She’ll need…

An O licence of course.

Whatever dozy did or didn’t do for that there is one thing that jumped out at me - all that money and pension contribution of just £33 :open_mouth:

That is awful and I’m constantly amazed at how people neglect things like pension and discard it or overlook it as part of an overall package.

Nah, dozy is ok for pension. He’s told us s here loads a times, that he’s got a big pension, Mrs got a big pension, house paid off, etc…

And still he works like a chump, midnight starts, 60+ hours a week .

I disagree , I earnt £901 last week , 60 1/2 hrs running palls from depot to warehouses ,that days , the lads where I am on nights / tramping would be on over 1 k pw , and our pay I’d say is nothing special , average , the agency lads doing 5/6 , every hour god sends are well over 1 k pw ( I’ve seen it with my own eyes ) , I was always over 1k when on agency
We’ve suoermarket lads on here on 50 k

Is that on top or take home? if there’s is lads/lasses taking home £900 a week on supermarket work then I stand corrected, but I have never met one yet

mom- fri tramping , delivering to rdc/ cash & carrys , you can do it as i say , but i was maxing put hours , and was on a good hourly rate

I doubt that was a 5 day, 50 hour week. Please tell us, how many hours, and days, you worked to make that. And then work out how much (or little) you can work, and earn, next week…

If you mean me , it clearly states Days , 60 1/2 hrs , can you not read , 5 days , sun - thurs
How do I know what I’m going to earn next week , I might have a heart attack / stroke or win the lottery sat
If you mean this week I’ve done 42 hrs upto now ( 3 days ) , today is looking like 13/14 hrs ( luckily I’ve a split rest to use ) , then thurs / sat is anyone’s guess , maybe bloke who dishes out work will be nice & give me 2 x 12 hrs shifts , no idea
But it will definitely be more money than £900 , and more hours
Got what I wanted , employed & days ( though 23.00/ midnight / 1 am starts is stretching days a bit ) but whatever it’s better than agency / tramping , though money is not as good .

So, you’re on £22 + per hour. Nice one. Good luck with your health, coping with those hours though…

My post is a Rant about poor rates I currently based in south east uk is it no wonder there is a shortage of drivers , taking into Account training costs then the problem with parking especially in
The south east and greater London , if I can give an Example ADT dump truck a new driver operating A 30 tonne ADT could get upto 18 an hour you don’t need a car license but would need a plant training certificate, once operater passes NVQ and goes to a blue CPCS cab expect upto £21 an hour On CIS through payroll company, only obstacles are seasonal work so by October November Earth works close down telehandler are on over £20 hour , small dumpers 6 tonne £16 hour with scope for mote once NVQ is Achieved and wagon drivers are on a lot less for a job that Carry’s lots more responsibility.

What’s happened to the other £33 ? As he’s earned double nearly to what I did last week and my work pension deduction was £33 so good old Doze is being fiddled again

I got my Kalmar and Hyster reach stacker tickets and you can earn good money with them, until the ships delayed, broke down, bad weather, diverted then your shifts disappear and you get the stood down call. If your lucky you get the basic, no shift bonus,no overtime, if your unlucky your on zero hours and get nothing, driving a truck (on specialised work) I have just sat 3 days in Scotland drove for a day and sat another two, times my own to go explore or maybe visit a pub or two, all on full day rate, I keep banging this drum but only a few older hands get it- the money in driving trucks as a truck driver is to get into a company where the trucks are not the money maker- own account work- earn your spurs on general haulage and get the experience then if you want to earn go specialised/own account. I concede with my job you have be be willing to be away from home multiple weeks - but in return I hit the 40% tax threshold in the first week of this year (offset it by a higher salary sacrifice pension payment each week). The £1000 per week jobs are out there just not running pallets from warehouse to warehouse for a haulier

sun- thurs , days , 70 3/4 hrs , max your hours out / work a extra shift & £1,000 take home on days is possible , just pall work

If I was foolish enough to work 70 hours in 1 week then my wage comes to £1275.
But I ain’t looking for an early grave so I don’t!
Just saying!

Wage or take home , my point was ricki said you couldn’t take home £1000 pw doing pall work , assuming yours is take home / pall work then goes to prove it is possible
As for a early grave for working 70 hrs , my brother died , late 40,s from mnd , loads of young footballers have , Fernado ricksen , young rugby player , rob burrows( has it ) , none did long hours , my mate of 52 who works in a office has just been diagnosed with bowel cancer , outlook bleak , young 23 yr old kid was at one of my mri scans , throat cancer , never smoked
Auntie chain smokes / drinks a bottle Sherry a day & is still going late 80,s , if you believed the health stuff around smoking / drinking she should of been gone decades ago
It’s just a case of when it’s your time / it’s your time , doing 40 hrs a week hasn’t stopped my mate in office getting bowel cancer , and doing 70 hrs hasn’t killed the 70 yr old I work with now , he’s actually 10x healthier than me at 62

Its not a question of “believing”. Smoking is dangerous just like crossing the road with your eyes closed is dangerous - if you are lucky and you have the right genes you might get to 80 smoking but most people wont.

Ok, but you still need to maximise your chances mate whatever,.and despite all that…those are all exceptions,.rather than the actual rule. :bulb:

Aye that’s all well and good doze, but point is mate you have been coming on here for years telling us how you work (or at least how you used to work) maxing out, with minimal proper rest, constantly under pressure,.(and responding to it) not eating properly, not sleeping properly, ridiculous start times and all the rest of it, with emphasis on a constant harsh work sleep pattern.

By same token you have also constantly informed us of your assorted health problems, blood pressure and diabetes to mention 2,.with I guess numerous others.
Is it not a fair assumption to suggest there is a definite connection?

Not knocking you btw,.I generally sympathise with you as you are not the only one in this game to be like that by any means, many drivers fall into that endurance test rather than a job vibe.

I could (but won’t) go back tomorrow to full weeks with mega hours, making mega money, but there is much more to life than that sh, but then you also tell us you do not need to work,.and it’s only spending money, but ffs how much ‘spending money’ do you need?

I saw this vision of how I COULD become soon after I went from being self employed to becoming an employed driver,.about 25 or so years ago, so I said ■■■■ it,.I ain’t ending up like that.

Not blowing my own bugle here mate, but we are somewhere near a similar age,.and I have none of the ailments you list, and I am constantly told I do not look my age, and I put this down to lifestyle, or at least making a decent lifestyle whilst still.being a tramper, with a refusal to accept being pressurised, or ■■■■ ed about, and having a laid back attitude, worrying about ■■■■ all in life,.and gradually cutting back on work and prioritising on social and family life.

I had a random invite for a medical 2 weeks ago, passed with flying colours, (apart from my weight,.although I have the height to carry it off, but as I said…too much social life.)
My HGV medical is just round the corner, and I ain’t too worried.

I would say we both reflect how we each approach the job mate…just saying.

According to my sister who still lives in Bristol where most of my family live diabetis runs in the family , loads have died of it ( thanks sis ) , I to be honest didn’t even know it was something that could run in a family , though to be honest I don’t know a whole lot about it other than what I need to know
Bp , is again so I’m told associated with diabetis / mine has to be lower todo with kidneys / liver I think they said , and it goes really high when I get worked up at hospital / clinic etc
Problems with legs / feet / circulation and are all part of diabetis so I’m told
Heart murmur we suspect I’ve always had
Prostrate cancer again so I’m told will affect most men , though most won’t even realise it , theyl die of something else first ( what consultant told me , you’ll die of something else , before prostrate cancer kills you ) , hope he’s right , my dad died of lukemia , they found while doing test he had prostrate cancer
So I’m not sure 70 hrs has contributed to any of my illnesses, maybe it has , but I’m still going at 61 ( I thought I was 62 , minds going )
The point is rob , my posts were about ricki saying you couldn’t earn a grand a week doing palls , yes can , and you don’t need to spend weeks away , 2 days in
Lym services ha ha
Bit worried about him , gone awol , hope the reality of weekends away , 45 hrs at lym whilst we pull a few palls round the country for the same money has got him sat in some corner screaming ha ha

As I said doze I sympathise with you on your health problems,.I mean that.

But reading what you have just told me mate,.I’d be going for an easy, or at least easier, life at home, …or if I wanted to keep my hand in,.get a local job on a van or summet.

I’m ■■■■ ed if I’d be tramping about doing daft starts and long hours in a ■■■■ truck, if I had your ailments…life’s too ■■■■ short mate. :bulb:

(Btw there’s a good pub a mile from Lymm services, ‘The Bear’s Paw’ old fashioned style boozer with good food, one of the very few lay bys (opposite) I would head for in the past.
I’ve spent many a good night there in the past, it would be fine for an all dayer if weekended.

Going in a different direction, I was brought up with the old-fashioned working class mentality that you never talked about how much you earned

I remember as a young engineering apprentice (in 1978) a conversation between the older guys and we younger ones about money (we got £25 a week at 16, going up to £35 at 17  )
One of my mates asked one of the older guys how much he took home, his reply went something like:
“Never ask a man how much he earns kiddo, decent blokes will see it as cheek and tell you to [zb] off, anyone who does tell you will be telling you a pack of lies.”
