Seems to be every other thread is being spammed with links to a site called truckingtopics.co.uk run by a character called Richard Simpson. Looks like a bit of a back bedroom set-up. Anyone know what the deal is? Some connection to trucknet and CM or ?

Years ago Richard Simpson was the editor of coachmart. now called route one. always been a journo and a bus and coach man.
Richard Simpson is a very well respected journalist, one time editor of Trucking magazine and a freelancer for many titles including our own on occasion. While transport topics could be seen as a competitor to our titles I would defend Richards knowledge and abilities and to call them back bedroom is incorrect, despite our best efforts Richard often beats us to scoops and has an insight to the industry that many writers (rather than transport journalists) can only dream about.
My personal view ? the website could do with a bit of tarting up, but the content is usually 100% spot on

Idea for you which you’ll probably ■■■-■■■just because it’s me, but how about you wheel him in here and set up a ‘news’ forum or something so it’s all under 1 roof? I know that this has been done in the past but I think the reasons they fell apart were because they were posted in a ‘closed shop’ manner where no-one was allowed to reply, comment or discuss the news. Many news articles on road transport/driver related stuff are worth discussing and it is very silly imho to have to start a specific thread in a different forum to discuss a thread/post in another part of the site.

If there’s a story there that I think will appeal/be of use to Trucknet members or relevant to a discussion that’s already going on here, then I link directly to it. I do the same on some other websites too.
You don’t have to follow the links if you don’t want to…but I know quite a few of you do.
I believe the same thing happens with Lippieleaks…or whatever that Dutch truck ‘scoops’ site is…it’s linked on here sometimes, and folk enjoy looking at it and discussing what’s on it on here.
Anyway TT will be linked from here for you to use, or not, as you like, for as long as Rikki is prepared to put up with it. It all adds (I hope) interest and information to what’s a very good forum here.
Inviting him on here might be a good idea
One of the coach forums has a member called CDF reporter who simply posts the latest news
Perhaps we could have a TN reporter ?

That’s entirely up to transport topics if that’s the way they wish to go, not something I can impose or make happen- I suspect they may like their independence from Road Transport Media and the constraints as a publishing house we run under… its not my call and not something I can make happen- I do however welcome Transport topics involvement in these forums

I don’t put dates on the headlines on the index pages, because they are all relatively recent anyway and I try to keep it as fuss-free as pos.
But the actual stories on individual pages are all dated (between the headline and the pic/story).

they haven’t Rob, just put up a few links on relevant topics, they haven’t tried to spam the site or opened new topics to direct members to their site, they are fully aware on the rules of this site as we are of theirs but we are more than happy to inform members here of topics of interest on their website and they I am sure will direct people towards ours when appropriate

i don’t agree with him often, but, in this instance, i didn’t see anything wrong with what he had posted, it seems a very genuine question as to why the threads are there, i simply pointed out that i had not seen any of them
