Who/what is this truckingtopics site?

The OP is well known for trying to find fault where there is none. most of us tend to now ignore him.

i don’t agree with him often, but, in this instance, i didn’t see anything wrong with what he had posted, it seems a very genuine question as to why the threads are there, i simply pointed out that i had not seen any of them

and now that i have stood up for Rob K, i think i might have to go for a lie down :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

That’s a +2 for that!!!
I was actually wondering the same myself…

There just seemed to be rather a lot posted in quick succession which is akin to spamming. However, I now see there’s nothing sinister going on. Still thing you’d do well to contact gasgas and ask his thoughts on becoming main news man on here with his own forum etc. It’s an area which is badly lacking from this site. :bulb:

I think active members of any internet forums should be permitted to promote things, that may be in their personal interest, now and again. I would put the emphasis on ‘active’ though ie they are commenting regularly and contributing on a reasonably wide variety of threads rather than things that just benefit either the promotion of their own business or driving traffic to their site. Similar to the people who just register, as a one off, and start a thread entitled ‘something with my lorry won’t work you lot tell me how to fix it and then you’ll never hear from me again’ or ’ you lot tell me what it’s like to work at this company and you’ll never hear from me again’.

I don’t see a problem with a link if it’s relevant to the topic.

As Rikki said, Richard Simpson is very well informed. So much so that he used to ■■■■ off the staff on TRUCK all the time. Trucking (which he edited) used to come out a week ahead of us and we often read our own ‘scoops’ in that rag as we were going to press! The only consolation was that our stuff was better written :sunglasses:

Thanks for your kind words…I remember those days with great fondness.

What a shame that Truck is no longer around and the other mag is a pale shadow of its former self.

No criticism of the front-line editorial staff, because what happens is you get a publisher who is given a successful, profitable magazine to ‘look after’ and then, because he has little understanding of the subject, the market or the readers thinks to himself hmm, I could make £1200 a year more if I cut editorial cost by £100 an issue.

You don’t have to do that very often before a magazine is ruined.

So if Rikki sets you up a news forum on here would you post your articles here? :bulb:

I suspect that the RTM management would point out that they have such a thing already…the Commercial Motor website.

TBH, CM is far better resourced and connected than I ever will be. There’s just one of me and I have to fit TT in between ‘paying’ jobs.

Hopefully everyone who is a regular on here now knows where to find Trucking Topics, and as and when I stumble across stories that I think might be of interest to Trucknet I’ll link them from here, providing I’m not putting Rikki’s nose out of joint.

You can then praise, rubbish or just discuss them as you please.

That is disappointing. It’s nice to have everything under one roof. Call me lazy but I have no desire to go looking for news articles elsewhere. I’d prefer them to come up in my ‘new posts since last visit’ and be able to discuss them if of interest. Posting them on a different site and then creating tons of links to them from here is completely retarded imho, unless your goal is to vastly improve the SEO of your site which is really the only positive thing to come out of this heath robinson way of doing it.

The CM may be far better resourced but when you look at the site it’s very poor, i find trucking topics clear, free from crap and to the point, you say you maintain the site on your own i can only wonder how many it takes to come up with the other offering!
keep up the good work

Again, thanks for your kind words.

CM’s site is a commercial enterprise and has to fit in ads etc, so you can’t blame it for being a bit ‘busy’.

I’ve tried to keep mine as clear as possible…and also as easy to work on from my end as possible as I’m writer, editor, designer and (so help me) IT troubleshooter!

That does, however, make it look a bit ‘back bedroom’, especially as it’s produced on a Mac, but (I guess) mostly viewed on PCs.

I can’t hope to offer the comprehensive coverage that the big commercial sites do, but I hope that I do get the odd unique and interesting story up which might otherwise be missed.

You carry on doing what your doing Richard and if you make £millions one day good on you.We at one time conversed, think it was when I had major problems with Mercedes and I
have always read what you wrote with interest.Good luck. You might even force others to consider what they are producing and that won’t be a bad thing.

Cheers mate,

You’re not an owner-driver from Devon, are you?

Reason being I did have dealings with an o/d from devon with a troublesome early Actros…

Spot on Richard, now partially retired[35 years as an od] so if your looking for a pencilsharpener with attitude…get in touch,
