somebody has to ask this being it’s a new year
well im a smoker and i had my last one last night, and i just got up, and boy is it hard not having the first ■■■ of the day with my coffee and sat here thinking who else is going through this with me,
or is it just me on my own here, not even thinking about tomoz driving a lorry down the road. im going to be bald by the end of the day well with what little hair i have left lol so i just thought about how many truckers out there would be doing the same as me and will it be worth it in the end
I didn’t even try this year, i fail everytime i try

Just to tease you…
Seriously, well done for trying
people go on about how hard it is to give up the nicotine but I found it was the ritual of opening the packet, getting it out, lighting up etc that I missed most. I took to smoking those little cigars but soon gave that up too.
Mind - I quit when they went up to 30p a packet
So hang in there and think of all the money you are saving - and try not to eat too many sweeties.
It really is the single biggest thing you can do to ward of a heart attack, that and cutting down on the pies and the ale. It is very hard to do, i’m not a big smoker but have phases where I smoke moderately for a couple of months then take a couple of months off here and there, bit weird really, I like smoking but like feeling better when not smoking too.
yep smoking is the major cause heart problems, even a modarate smoker ( 10 per day) is at risk or so i was told when i had my heart attack. i’v went 5 weeks without a cig now and i can honestly say i dont miss em n feel better for it( btw i was a 40 a day smoker) the first 2 weeks is the worst
I think you have to have a genuine reason, i tried loads of times and always failed, i’d last a couple of days or maybe a week then go out for a beer at the weekend and last about ten mins in the pub, mates taking the pee or no willpower. Then when the missus had our daughter i just stopped and to be honest it was’nt hard that time and that was three years ago now, but like i said i think it was coz i had a reason, and the smoking ban has helped too.
im gonna try cut down, ill fail at giving up tbh
You have to want to give up…I was given loads of hassle from my children and wife but just carried on smoking, then one day watched a programme about Roy Castle who died of passive smoking, after that I just stopped, gave all my ■■■■ and baccy to my neighbour and just stopped!
I’m still a smoker its just been 15 years since my last ■■■!!!
Gave up smoking that was easy noe I need to stop eating !!!
im going to be standing alongside you iceman.
last january i quit smoking, unfortunatley, through nothing but my own stupidity,i started again after going 6 months.
ive just been to the doctors for my new batch of champix, and an inhilator.will be starting the course tomorrow,so will hopefully be back off them again by the end of the month, and this time for good.i will be honest,im sick of smoking, and for health and financial reasons i need/want to quit after 40+ a day for the last 20 years.
some helpful tips(bit hypocritical cos i failed last time):
1)take any help on offer from the nhs, dvd"s,patches, support, even if you think you can cope.
2)get champix prescribed from doctors and follow the course to the letter.
3)get an inhillator prescribed as well, dont use the capsules supplied, instead, split in half(it comes apart),and fill with torn up toilet roll(not used) until you get the same drag effect as you would with smoking.(sounds daft, but when you get a craving its brilliant to use as a dummy ■■■.you could use a pen to the same effect.
4)when you get a craving, just ride it out, within 5 mins you will be thinking about something else without noticing.smoking to me,is a physcological thing, you dont need them when your asleep,so why when awake?.
5)put the money,or some you would save on not smoking to one side, and treat yourself to something you couldnt have bought whilst smoking.if id lasted i would have been £3650 better off in a year.
when i quit last year,i felt rough for 2 weeks.it was hell, with cravings, but they gradually became less and less, until i nearly stopped getting cravings at all(one or two a week).smoking areas smelt bad,as did people who smoked(you will be able to smell someone smoking from half a mile away ) .just try to keep focused and posotive, and dont let the ■■■■ win.im determined this time not to fail.
me too - no pills for me though, I stopped at 17:30 on the 2nd and I’ve not really missed it yet. best of luck to all who are trying though.
I stopped three years ago and I still miss them, when I was trying to stop with patches, I used to think about it for 2 or 3 hours, pull off the patch, have a couple of ■■■■ and stick the patch back on!
The best way is to simply stop, no patches, no chewing gum, just tell yourself it is too expensive. But as mentioned, it is the practice of opening the packet, the first drag in a morning that I miss still.
boredom’s the worst thing, I’m bored rigid tonight and it’s the first time since I stopped that I’ve REALLY wanted a ■■■ Need to find something to do quick!
well just to let you know 3 days now and still not had one dont even miss them atm and rog that was nastie posting a coffee and a ■■■ and thought omg i need one now lol
but joking aside i was bored so i put my laptop on and here i am sat in durham prince bishop shopping center getting loaded after getting in here i did need a smoke after backing on the loading bay boy was it tight and i am not looking forward to getting out of here looks just as bad
i will get back on laters as they have just finished loading me so time to close up and fight my way out lol
I succumbed - last night, I was on the way home at 01:30 and bloody ran out of petrol - had to get my old man out to help so after a can of petrol I headed for the petrol station and decided it was time I only got 10 though and intend to carry on from where I left off when they’re gone. 2hrs sat on the m6 didn’t help much to be honest.

 I succumbed - last night, I was on the way home at 01:30 and bloody ran out of petrol - had to get my old man out to help
My missus said that should cure the boredom for a few minutes, but I am not sure I would want her helping especially with cold hands

doh, walked straight into that one! Not too sure about the few minutes bit though - I hear there’s excercises you can do to help with that
i wouldnt stop for health reasons. i dont believe all the propaganda that is thrown at us from all angles. i had an appointment to see about a vasectomy and was told i should stop smoking
if you are GOING to give up, you need to WANT to give up. if you dont want to, you arent going to and no patches or pills can help. i dont want to give up so there is no point in trying. whether i smoke or not will make no difference to heart problems that i will face in the future. at least as a smoker i can reduce the even higher risks of stress related problems to go with them
so how is everyone doin on this
i gave yo a few yr back decided 1 sat nite that i wasnt goin to smoke any more and didnt was hard at first but got there
