Come on Roger, when did they ever short change you ? I did a year with them and my cash was always there for me. At the end of each trip you would sit down with your Manager, mine was at first Andrew Jones and then Shiela Bennett . They would go through all your expences with you and when you both agreed on the balance, you got a cheque there and then. At least that`s how it was then 1976/7. Mr.Micheal Whittle, in his morning coat and pin stripe trousers, (flash prat) would always look in and thank you.

I only remember Alan Jones, he did a spell at Alan Jacksons in Ossett too.
Here are a couple of pictures when we pulled for them in the 80s

Once upon a time, they were one and the same, I believe. When Whittle moved from the “Waverley Freight Terminal” in Preston (actually a yard set in amongst a row of terraced houses) to the old Horsley Smith timber yard in Bamber Bridge, the removals side had one of the warehouses on the site.
At some stage, Whittle Movers was sold off separately, perhaps through a management buyout, and moved out to Charnley Fold in Bamber BrIdge. Then as Whittle International lurched towards the abyss, the Bamber Bridge site (one of Whittle’s few assets) was sold to W. H. Bowker in 1989, although Whittle retained control of the leased office block at that time. About 4 months later, Whittle went into receivership, and Bowker took over the building as well, sbsequently developing the depot by taikng over adjacent property.
The goodwill (such as it may have been!) of Whittle was taken over by Hauser, and it traded for a while as Whittle-Hauser, although trailers were certainly returned to CTR at Haydock. I know one of the local hauliers asked to shunt some of them had an issue over payment…

Right… Seeing Michael Whittle’s name and the original logo, I wonder if this is a re-invented Whittle International (maybe he thought we’d forgotten about him after 20 years), rather than any connection with the present day Whittle Movers.
