Which stretch of water #2? [Got by grahamA and Pat Hasler]

This one is a three-parter, so you’ll need all three answers to claim a win.

Q1) Where was I?

Q2) What is the name of this stretch of water?

Q3) What is the name of the piece of land just across the water?

Which stretch of water #2.jpg

:bulb: Once you’ve got the answer to Q1, the rest should be quite easy.

  1. Oban
  2. Loch Linnhe
  3. Isle of Mull

Pat Hasler:

  1. Oban
  2. Loch Linnhe
  3. Isle of Mull

Sorry Pat, 0/3 I’m afraid. :frowning:

2nd try …

  1. Troon,
  2. Firth of Clyde.
  3. Holy island in the foreground and Mull of Kintyre beyond that ?

Sorry Pat, no cigar this time. :frowning:

At first I thought that may be the top end of the Sound of Mull with Kilchoan and Ardnamurchan over the water but the more I look the more I aint so sure  and as for where you took the pic … opposite Tobermory (Ballymory for the kids) but don’t know the name.

  1. Mallaig
  2. Sound of Sleat
  3. Isle of Skye

grahamA:

  3. Isle of Skye

Sorry graham, it’s not Mallaig, the Sound of Sleat, nor the Isle of Skye.

Clue:

You’re a bit too far to the West and a bit too far to the South.

I know where you mean raymundo, but I’m a fair distance from there.

It reminds me of somewhere down in south west Scotland near mull of Galloway but can’t think where exactly.

I’m with you on that

You need to be thinking further North.

Are you somewhere within the Clyde Estuary ? ie. anywhere east an north from KIntyre to Ayr.

Thurso, straights of Shetland, Hoy.

Sorry Raymundo, it’s much further North than that.

Pat Hasler is on the right track.

Pat Hasler:

Nearly Pat, you’ve got 1/3 now.

The piece of land is indeed Hoy.

I’m not as far South as Thurso. :grimacing:

Dunnet Head and the Pentland firth?

Pentland Firth with Hoy in the background and the Isle of Stroma ■■ is so I would hazard a guess at Gills Bay or John o’Groats area. Little bit further north than Thurso.

raymundo, you’re now 2/3 and quite close on the place.

The water is indeed Pentland Firth and the piece of land is Hoy. (Stroma is off to the right somewhere.)

I’ll post a confirmatory pic once somebody gets the place correct.

You’re 2/3 now Graham. Just the piece of land to go.
