ThrustMaster:
And last night on the A75, in thick fog with visibility down to 50 yards, I was travelling at 35mph and sure enough, a queue of paddies were behind me. Not one of them was brave enough to go for it! So much for the paddy hard-men in their 600 Scannies.
For the first time in living history we are now being criticised for not overtaking on the A75. You honestly couldnāt make this ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā up. Had one overtaken then you would still be on here crying about how dangerous we are.
Donāt think so, but thereās no point flashing the spotlights at me, trying to make me go faster in thick fogā¦when he wouldnāt go faster himself and overtake.
If you want to go faster than meā¦on you goā¦Iām not stopping you. The only thing stopping him overtaking was himselfā¦just a wimp behind the wheel.

You could have moved over for a few seconds into a layby and let them get on with it?
āRules are for the guidance of the wise and the blind obedience of foolsā (other versions available but essentially the same)
I hate all rules, rules are for people who canāt think for themselves, the longer they are deprived of the need because there seems to be an āexpertā for everything. I am a smoker, I reserve the right to smoke and accept everyone elseās right not to breath my smoke in. Ergo, if I am in unfamiliar company I will ask if they mind. If they say āyesā I ask them whether they think I should leave, or themselves. They are usually taken aback by this but I politely explain that I have the same rights as they have. Iām using this analogy because it seems to highlight the need for personal rights AND responsibilities.
Now getting back to the speed issue: I used to drive the A11 (Thetford area), in the wee hours of the night Iād do whatever speed took my fancy, during the morning rush I would always drive flat out otherwise you would have a continuous series of near disasters as the barmy brigade pull out to see if they can pass, they have to pull out because theyāre too close. At peek times overtaking opportunities are rare but they still do it They have no common sense and often little ability, they are the LCD (Lowest Common Denominator), these are the imbeciles we are expected to bow to, to help in their lifetimes of Celebrity worship and self indulgent shallowness.
āUp the Revolutionā I say, itā time we held the government to ransom, people will suffer but the duration of withdrawing our labour would be very short. Big business call the shots, always have done, today big business, for us, means the retailers. stop delivery and collection in the food chain and 3 days would do the trick, a working week or less for sure. We could demand 50% pay rises and a 35 hour week like the French and they would have no choice, none! Itāll never happen of course, the government would simply āadviseā them that āthe latest research done by the University of B.S. has revealed that truck drivers on strike were more likely to turn gay unless they return to work immediatelyā!! People seem to believe whatever they see on TV or reading a newspaper. Stop swiping your bloody iPhone and talk to each other, united we standā¦If your driving a truck you are almost certainly more highly skilled than most others out there, of course there are a few who let us down but that is always going to be the case.
Use your head and decide what speed YOU want to go for professional reasons that matter to you. And if you exceed the limit and get caught please donāt blame your employer, your are in charge of the vehicle. If they pressure you then sort it out or move on, itās not always easy to do but usually possible.
40mph for me. donāt care how fast everyone else behind wants to go, who will get caught if their truck is doing 56? Of course itās meā¦the truck in front! Of course pulling in is something I tried to do when possible. You donāt expect office and warehouse workers to break the law as part of their job, so why should drivers break the law?!
Was stuck behind a wiseman on the 605 today doing 35mph, taking the absolute ā ā ā ā quite honestly. Thanks to whoever you are, can stomach 40 but geeessh.

I had that on the A1 north of Alnwick towards Berwick once. He was obviously on the cruise control at 34mph, I looked out a couple of times but didnāt have the gap to overtake. When he got to Berwick, over the river & up the hill on the dual carriageway I pulled out to pass him & he shot off like a flaming racing driverā¦then once again on the A1 north guess what? Back to 34ā¦AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!

if you wanted to go faster than him, why didnāt you overtake?
Didnāt fancy a car or another truck as bonnet badge as the traffic oncoming kinda made that impossible, else I would have been straight past at the first chance.

Fair enough but why direct your anger and frustration at another driver just because you canāt overtake?

Because the knob is taking the ā ā ā ā at 35mph, and who says I wanted to 56 ffs, are you a wiseman string it out driver or something ?

Itās a maximum speed of 40 so surely whoever it was wasnāt doing anything wrong?..

Got to laugh at this thread. Maybe he felt safer going at that speed?
Also along that road is a speed camera van that sits up. Maybe the other reason why he was doing that speed. Or your always pushed to the max and want to get on?

Im with you on that, 40 is fine but anything less is taking the ā ā ā ā ! I dont care for the excusses either like people saying he mite of felt safer, well he can pull over then and let people past.
