I think its best that some drivers just stick to 40 on singles and all those competent drivers can just overtake.
Typical Essex boy comment!!!

Dont mind anybody doing 40, it is the law, personally I don
t but it`s my choice, my licence. What does bug me is those that do 40 then as soon as they hit a bit of d/c they floor it to the limiter, why, if your not willing to break the limit on a s/c why on a d/c.When I get to a dc I carry on at 40 until those that wish to pass have done so, then I increase my speed up to 50.
^ this. Totally this. I stay at 40 until traffic behind has passed. Doing otherwise is ■■■■■■■■
Mind you sat at forty behind a pair of TNT artics in my car, got to the dual, indicated and pulled out to overtake and the second one cut me up to overtake his mate who had dropped the hammer and it took the whole length of dual to get past and I had to drop back in behind the 40 bloke. ■■■■■.

^^This 100%.
I drive up the A1 between Newcastle and Edinburgh quite a lot, as you may know it’s a mixture of single and dual carriage way.
Unless I am going past a scamera I drive at about 46 mph, slow enough to be safe and fast enough not to cause a nuisance to other vehicles, and like others have said, I keep my speed the same on D/C untill the traffic as passed me then speed up to 56

yeah I do that. I’m not in a hurry but if someone else is I’ll make it easy as I can for them to get past. going back a few years it would have been me in a hurry.

in the past i have usually drove at about 48 mph on single carriage way
and 54/55 on dual carriageway
but after reading posts on this thread and thinking about it
i will be doing 40 mph on single carriageways in future
cos its just not worth going faster
not worth the risk of gettting the points or having an accident
not worth finishing ten minutes earlier
not worth doing it for the gaffar or company cos they wont thank you for it
but after saying all that
i will still go 54/55 on dual carriageways
because it is still safe and your very unlikely to get done for itSo if you have an accident whilst speeding on a dual carriageway?
whats the chances of having an accident on a dual carriagway
compared to a single one
i am highly unlikely to have a head on collision on a dual carriageway
and come on
am i really going to get done for speeding at 54/55 ,mph
on a 50 mph or national speed limit dual carriageway
come on ,

WHY don’t all you numty’s of so called drivers get it into your heads , that now that most big fleets are now tracked , every moment of any journey can be tracked back to a particular time , should any accident or whatever happen then the driver can and WILL be sacked depending on the circumstances and the AVERAGE SPEED that he has been doing on any particular road will be taken into consideration, then if this is out of the companys scope that driver WILL BE SACKED, and i speak from experience, so now any one who wishes to SPEED past me can do , I will give a flicker of the indicator to help along, but, DO NOT THINK SITTING UP MY ARSE will make me me go faster by intimidating me, or help your ego by showing what speed you can do, you will just need to hang on pal till you get a SAFE passing place. After all is YOU that is breaking the law and YOU that will collect the points NOT ME.

It wastes time, that’s what’s wrong with it…!!!

If I get the job, 40mph will be a luxury…
…I’ll be on a dustcart.
for me , it depends on the actual road and whether i’m on an ‘hours’ or a job/finish week.
if doing 40, I will always pull over every so often to let traffic by, and give a left flick when safe.
for the record, i’ve been done at 53mph on the A143 towards Lowestoft. So people DO get caught.

+1. Never trust any camera & FFS don’t flick car drivers…!
Mate of mine just got a summons through the post for doing 46 on the 66.
Have they nothing better to do?
Like catching rapists and murderers!
■■■■■■■ has a big problem with drugs and drink related crime, the perpetrators get away with community service, he’ll get 6 points and a £60 fine which in the long run will cost him more for insurance.

Secure too; People will always throw something away.

Was on the A75 yesterday in the car and caught up behind the usual 40mph queue. The vehicle at the front was a 7.5 tonne empty flat bed old Daf 45 thing, behind this was a Irish fridge, followed on by small procession of about 6 or 7 cars. What happened was the usual car drivers having a look at taking out the full queue, brake lights on every two minutes, speeding up slowing down, bumper to bumper etc etc.
We hit a wide section of road and the Irish truck managed to overtake followed by every car one by one including me.What happened next was everyone travelling behind the Irish fridge which was doing 50 - 56, keeping a safe distance, no brake lights, no one wanting to overtake and no drama. A very pleasant journey.
Cool story bro. Here’s another one for ya.
Was on the A75 on Tuesday afternoon, doing my usual 40 and approaching the Kinmount Straight started to get a few flashes and sure enough in the distance, I spy a camera van.
Absolutely nothing to worry about as I’m doing the limit anyway. It’s nice to feel vindicated every once in a while.
And last night on the A75, in thick fog with visibility down to 50 yards, I was travelling at 35mph and sure enough, a queue of paddies were behind me. Not one of them was brave enough to go for it! So much for the paddy hard-men in their 600 Scannies.

For the first time in living history we are now being criticised for not overtaking on the A75. You honestly couldn’t make this ■■■■■■■■ up. Had one overtaken then you would still be on here crying about how dangerous we are.
if the speed limit is 40 do 40 dont see what the problem is most roads ie a9 have laybys i just pull over and let the cars past if they build up no point in speeding dont get paid enough for speeding fines and points

Aye, sounds Irish doesn’t it?
Didn’t know Scania had a 600 out either!
