Good point well made.My view is that its great having a more powerful lorry now so I can thunder past the 40mph morons whilst tweeting about them and naming and shaming them…how dare they get in my way, DONT THEY KNOW WHO I AM
You sound like Toad from wind in the willows.

We’ve already had Ratty from earlier in this thread
And no doubt like Toad I’ll be locked up for my driving antics sooner or later.
Dont mind anybody doing 40, it is the law, personally I don
t but it`s my choice, my licence. What does bug me is those that do 40 then as soon as they hit a bit of d/c they floor it to the limiter, why, if your not willing to break the limit on a s/c why on a d/c.

I agree with this post entirely

Because your far more likely to get nicked doing 56 on a single than you are doing 56 on a dual I’d imagine.

I think the point is either stick to the law or dont. Don’t be selective about the speed limits you want to adhere to. The whole ‘Im not risking my licence’ arguement falls flat on its face when people do this.

When I get to a dc I carry on at 40 until those that wish to pass have done so, then I increase my speed up to 50.
I dont know what other instructors teach but after doing a steady 40 on SC and then reaching a DC with a queue behind, I would ask the trainees what speed they should now do?
The usual answer would be 50 so I would then ask if that would make it more difficult for those behind, especially the LGVs, to pass us?
They would then say yes so I asked what might be a good idea for about a minute or so?
The answer would then be to hold speed at 40 until all those that might struggle to pass have gone by and then increase to 50
I discussed this with a few examiners and they all stated that providing the trainee informed them what they were doing then it would not incur any penalty
ADD - just seen waddy640 post which says the same

700bhp…willy the size of a walnut
That must explain why I’m happy driving a 310.
Was on the A75 yesterday in the car and caught up behind the usual 40mph queue.
The vehicle at the front was a 7.5 tonne empty flat bed old Daf 45 thing, behind this was a Irish fridge, followed on by small procession of about 6 or 7 cars. What happened was the usual car drivers having a look at taking out the full queue, brake lights on every two minutes, speeding up slowing down, bumper to bumper etc etc.
We hit a wide section of road and the Irish truck managed to overtake followed by every car one by one including me.
What happened next was everyone travelling behind the Irish fridge which was doing 50 - 56, keeping a safe distance, no brake lights, no one wanting to overtake and no drama. A very pleasant journey.

Shame that ‘quote’ is wrong, its 750 and a peanut. Come on now.
in the past i have usually drove at about 48 mph on single carriage way
and 54/55 on dual carriageway
but after reading posts on this thread and thinking about it
i will be doing 40 mph on single carriageways in future
cos its just not worth going faster
not worth the risk of gettting the points or having an accident
not worth finishing ten minutes earlier
not worth doing it for the gaffar or company cos they wont thank you for it
but after saying all that
i will still go 54/55 on dual carriageways
because it is still safe and your very unlikely to get done for it

So if you have an accident whilst speeding on a dual carriageway?

I wait till I have a TNT trailer on myself! It’s expected then! At least on the A5
I think its best that some drivers just stick to 40 on singles and all those competent drivers can just overtake.
