I thought the CF’s were the rigids but I’ve seen artics with CF tractor units.
Size of the cab.
XF & CF are just different model types, nothing else

LFs generally the 7.5 tonner cab, CFs mix of rigids and artic, medium size cab, XFs are the big wide cabs usually only found as artics.
Size of driver’s ego.

There’s a bit more to it than that!!
I dont mind driving an XF. I would keep chickens in a CF.
LF 2-axle rigids with cab from a Renault Midlum. Optional sleeper. Most in UK are 7.5 tonnes.
CF Distribution truck, with optional sleeper + high roof. Rigid with up to 4 axles or 2 or 3 axle tractor
XF Long haul truck. Big sleeper cab as standard. chice of low, medium (Space) or high (Super Space) roof. Usually sold in UK as tractor, but some rigids also. Cab dates back to a joint venture between DAF and Pegaso of Spain way back in the 1980s and was also used on the first Seddon Atkinson Stratos …yes I really am that old, and so is the cab.
The XF doesn’t seem to give as much bother as the CF does. The seen more reliable. Or maybe I’m just imagining it!
Theres not much between the Xf and CF High roof model , the main thing is the XF has a flat floor and the cabs bigger the bunks bigger the side lockers are better , theres not much between them in terms of head room ,strangely the lockers in the cf are bigger but i would say the XF is a the better one to live in

I agree the xf is alot better put together ,shut the door on a xf and you get a nice thud, shut the door on a cf and it sounds like a tin can full of marbles ,why do folk buy high roof cfs instead of the normal xf ,i know it comes down to price but when you want shut the xf will bring better money than the cf,who would buy a cf with a few years on its back ,there bad enough new
Don’t forget that you have that strange window within a window on a CF,
and the XF’s wobble about more than a CF
and probably 50% of all the CF’s are run by Royal Mail

Yea, one of it’s worst features.
Sometimes if my windows are a bit steamed up because of rain i’ll open the passenger window for reversing so I can see the mirror better. Can’t do this in a CF because the glass next to the mirror doesn’t open so you have to ■■■■ about wiping it

After driving a CF yesterday I can see why. The seat is crap and yes, it was really low. The clutch pedal is miles in the air, the gearbox is like a stick in a bucket of slop, the brakes weren’t there at all. Still, it has some go to it.

99% of those RM trucks have more dents and bits hanging off that the other 50% non RM

Mechanically they are exactly the same its only the drivers ego that changes between models , if they can find something wrong with the DAF / CF they will shout about it from the rooftops , the same fault with a XF you wont hear a cheap about it , DAF CF/XF range are probably the best selling trucks in Europe .
Only midgets drive a cf.

Unless you’re kuehne & nagel, in which case, it’s fine for an artic!
