It would seem we have come "full circle " with this thread now!!! But its been extremely interesting! Bewick.
No one has mentioned the transport cafe at Winforton on the A438 Hereford to Brecon road, that was anther good one.

hi lads,
from a few years back.how about “wally’s” at eynatten on the german border.a cracking stop years ago.they had a very nasty explosion and fire there in the summer 0f 1995.the place has been rebuilt and as far as i am aware is fully open and popular again.though nowadays it’s probably full of eastern europeans eating out of their own side lockers.when i used to go there it was a hive of activity and brits. going all over always stopped at “wally’s”.
regards andrew
Used to be the last meeting place for drivers on “Middle East” runs before all split up to go our seperate routes [bit of an urban myth in my opinion] !
Last time I was there the Belgian police were rounding up Eastern Bloc illegals – not risked going back for overnight park since ! Now one hit Germany to the train !!

And greasy Joe’s at Cirencester, aptly named.
Your right there Dave I only used it a couple of times, had a bad guts each time so I never went back there. It had a funny smell to, I think it may have been the fat he used ( old engine oil )
as he used plenty of it, it ran off the plate.

Anyone remember the OLD Star cafe, on the old A74 south of Lesmahagow? (between jnc 10 and 11 of M74). Decent meal and a great breakfast to settle the stomach after a night on the “heavy” in the pub down the road. I think the owners name was Jean?Regards,
Mark.
A lad called Craig was then running the pub and he got quite a following again. Car park was a swamp but the beer made good earplugs

Hello john, yes you are right brian could be a bit funny till you got to know him,i heared a while ago his lad had closed and relocated to the symonds yat area, dont know if theres any truth in it.
regards dave.
Took me about 2 years of going in there to get a smile out of Brian, but after that he would always have a bit of a chat. Not sure what happened to lad when he left.

That’s the place Dave,it closed in te late 70’s,now a private house. The Sun Inn is still their, the cafe was a black and white place opposite. The Boat Inn is still a busy place. Sam Longson’s eight leggers were a regular sight up and down that road.
Cheers Dave.

The Woodside on the A614 between Rawcliffe and Goole.Full breakfast, always with tinned toms.
The Moat Lane Cafe, affectionately known as the “Wooden Hut” on the A57 between Cadishead and Warrington.Fried spam breakfast.
The Wychbold, side of the M5 adjacent to the A38 Droitwich turn - off.Full breakfast.
The Quernhow, northbound A1 in the 70s.Wouldn’t touch it now having read the reports.
Salt Box,near Uttoxeter…proper plateful of cardiac arrest.
As Sammy says,BP Grangemouth canteen was spot on,same as Baglan Bay.
Firth Derihon Ltd,on the A6 at Darley Dale, slice of toast and mug of tea = one old penny in 1968.
What was the one at Scremerston, just south of Berwick? That was pretty good for a plateful, plenty of square sausage from just over t’border.Hi Chris,
The Wychbold cafe has been knocked down and there’s a beefeater pub and a McDonald’s on site now. There is a new truckstop just above your namesake Webbs garden centre called the Pitstop, thats quite good.Did call at the salt box years ago,it was very good.
Cheers Dave.
The woodside was good apart from the potholes
the wooden hut [janets] was great, all crammed together on a cold morning big stove burning spam brecky and a pint oftea
the saltbox top knotch, only probs, parking area too small, opened too late and shut too soon
Had a few nights out at the Salt box, good cafe but as you said the parking area was to small.

Nobody having a plate of porridge at the Beatock cafe on the A74, dad used to warn me about my fingers in the revolving door.
That would be the Coatesgate cafe with the revolving doors and moonscape park.

Stayed there many a time and used the boozer down the road as earplugs like Wheelnut.
Around 20 years ago i used to deliver glass to a firm in Bridgenorth i cant remember the name of the industrial estate but the cafe was called Helgas …jeese what a breakfast,i wrapped my sheets up 1 morning and left the fork truck driver to unload and went over to the cafe.I was feeling rough from a few beers id had the night before i sat down and ordered a breakfast like i
ve never seen before or since it had everything .I was struggling with it when a postman who was sat near me stood up to leave,Helga came over to him as he had left 2 slices of bacon and began bollocking him and wrapped the bacon in foil and made him take it .I forced every last bit in as Helga was a big woman but the food was fantastic

Its all a bit vague now but i remember the food was great and overfacing,i went in 1 dinner time and this lad came in with a big smile on his face sat down and ordered a mixed grill, this plate arrived the size of a dustbin lid crammed with meat ,a minute later a large plate of chips arrived to go with it,i left about 5 minutes later all i can say is i hope he ate most of it cos she would have strangled him if he didn`t
I forgot this one in my earlier post, anyone still use “The Riverside” on the old A4 in Colnbrook, just up the road from the now closed “Jocks Cafe”?
I went in there a few months ago, after a long time away, and it hadn’t changed a bit! Even the same woman serving after 15 years! Lovely breakfast too.
Regards,
Mark.

Always used The Riverside good food in there. I did see somewhere a while ago maybe on here, that it was used in the film Hell Drivers. Didn’t know Jock’s had closed, that was good a few years ago.
