Looks like I’m kinda getting back on here a bit more regular, (mainly because of a
bit of coaching from my Mrs who is more tech savvy than me.)
Still can not say I enjoy the format though, looks like it has been formulated by smart arse enthusiastic teen agers show boating their skills…only cos they can.
youre out of touch zac its no big money to start a forum https://www.wix.com/blog/create-a-forum-and-build-your-own-online-community?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=9852964004^115258512847^search%20-%20dsa&experiment_id=^^473625301886^&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA5-uuBhDzARIsAAa21T_8SttfR4ekHiHiCt31Fd47BmYyq7So0fFHNTsks0EkYiOK1EHZlHYaApYQEALw_wcB

running a website or forum is expensive renting space on a web-server costs for both bandwidth and physical space. Then you need to buy a forum as most of the free ones are limited on the amount of users you can have. then you have to buy and register a domain name. why do you think this forum is over several servers.
Yes you could use something like apache and run it from home which is fine for a small business with a small website but not a professional forum as you would quickly run out of space so would need to have a dedicated web server which is not cheap as they have proper raid controllers etc etc.
However, as you clearly know better than everyone else i look forward to seeing your effort
you are out of Your depth thats fer sure . iv no interest in running a forum but i can tell you this ones got so complicated its now became its undoing! iv been running 2 biz ,one 16 yrs and one 3yrs and the websites cost £14 and £9 per month respectively . Registering a domain name is free long as you pay for a website Oh you can tell me but THIS is a pro forum , thats poppycock,it Was this time last year but not now lol . Youre getting all defensive and all that about its ran over several servers ,at great expense- likely it started small and simple the only way to keep it going on the cheap was to add on a server like adding on an extension lead . Now somebody cobbled it all together and they did their best but were out of their depth
This forum costs more than most to run due to all of the images that i believe are stored on the site, rather than hosted externally. When I 1st used forums, many would not allow any images for bandwidth reasons.
How is Cooper1203 being “defensive”? Unless I missed the announcement, he isn’t in charge of the forum, he’s simply expressing his opinion as a forum member, which seems to me to be a far more well considered opinion than your criticisms of the new forum.
I wouldn’t dispute that the sites you’ve said you have, would indeed be as cheap to run as you say, but I fully expect they are nothing like TN.
I haven’t spoken to those who pay the bills for TN about what it costs them, but I have previously had a number of in-depth conversations with the guys who ran a very successful scuba diving forum, with as many, if not more, members than TN has, so I know what you’ve said is very far from the reality of hosting this type of website.
Anyway, let us know if you do intend to launch the superior TN rival site; if what you’ve said is true I’m confident many of us will support your venture wholeheartedly, so you’ll be rapidly stowed off with members and coining it in with massive advertising revenues.
Yes, @tonyw38 , I remember those days, which is why a lot of people got them selves free photo hosting, the most popular example of which amongst my cohort was the old-style Photobucket (before they monetized it)
I changed the theme to dark and I find it far better to look at now. Its easier to navigate now I’m not finding it horrible to look at
I have got more or less used to this format now, being as I have said a regular at another one with a similar (but not the same) format but there are some things that puzzle me. This thread for instance. I come here to TN every day, more than once, and always look through ‘unread’ and ‘new’ posts, but this one has a red line telling me that this evening is the last time I visited, and that was 80 posts ago.
But I have just had an ‘oh dear’ moment. The American forum that I arrived at as a refugee is fast and thickly populated with at least 2 full pages of new posts every day, but just now I noticed it was very slow. Then I looked at the top of the page and there was an official message saying
‘March 10th: we are currently experiencing a technical issue that prevents new posts and threads from being added to the forum. We are working on fixing the problem now. Thank you for your patience!’
and
:************** is currently closed for maintenance.
Thank you for your patience!
As I said, oh dear.
Simply deja vue, or do you break every forum, you visit, Spardo?
There are a few which survive me, though I must admit I have seen a few off. Maybe that Aussie admin saw me coming and shut the shutters.
I have to admit, i ■■■■■■■■■■ ths site after it premodded me from the halcyon days when it was popular.
My previous persona, even though I spoke nothing more than my mind, was obviously a little too spicy for the moderators of the day.
Imagine my elation when I could come back moderator free and cause the havoc I intended when the site was in utter turmoil during “the transition”
After a few weeks, even a callous ■■■■■■■ such as myself doesn’t even have the heart to provoke this dying entity.
May it rest in peace and I wish you good people the best for you future.
Except that git, FrenchyEnglish. He can ■■■■ right off.
Ahh Bless…
Anyone would think that a small kid had recently been in some sort of interaction with me? And woke up holding a grudge?
Poor wee soul.
Yep, we all noticed tha…uummm what?
Utter turmoil?
Anyone?
Are you going? Again?
All of your personas and aliases?
I am sure many of us will miss you.
I linked a different thread, that l started, in a thread that I was trying to prevent derailment.
The link and brief explanation, has quoted the bulk of the new thread. That seems counter productive, is there any way to prevent such silliness?
is there away when sending dm’s to send more than one paragraph at a time
Don’t use the “carriage return” or “new paragraph” key… It will be one long paragraph, but if you use double spacing or…it may be easier for the reader.
To start a new paragraph in a DM, on a PC use Shift + Enter or Shift + Return Key.
On a mobile use the return key.
You can test this by sending yourself a DM
