We're not gettin' any younger!

I am going to a funeral today, that of John Copestake, who gave me my first driving job when I came out of the army 42 years ago.
He was one half of Cooke and Copestake that ran a few motors out of Smallwood up near Holms Chapel.
I drove an artic for the first time with them,an AEC Mandator,Park Royal cab, what a flying machine!
He was in the RAF during the war,and I see now he made it to 89,so not a bad innings.
I may well be off to another funeral next week,I saw another name I recognised in the deceased column last night I thought I knew,George Palmer, another into his late 80’s,who if he is the same bloke, was the transport manager of the Newport office for Vic Wild when I was on there.
RIP fella’s,time to pull over.

AMEN!

HI all I’m hoping that somebody is still active and can possibly help me with something I’ve always wanted to see . I am the youngest grandson of John copestake and we have many photos from over the years but would love as many as possible if anybody had any ? I have also heard a rumour that a wagon is still running with Cooke&Copestake livery but I have never seen it just wondered if anybody had any connections as the family would love to be able to see it if this is to be true.
Many thanks

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - What a ride, where are the wimmin?”

^^^^^^^
Yep…As Neil Young once said…
‘It’s better to burn out than to rust’.
That is my intention,.and I aint talking about burning myself out in this **** in job either.
That is why I still behave and look upon myself as in my 30s :sunglasses:…(note I said ‘look UPON’ not ‘Look’.:joy:)
Despite flak from my kids of that similar age.

No intention of acting like an old bloke anytime soon…or growing up for that matter😂

Absolutely. Love the broadside skid analogy. As for growing up: don’t! It’s a trap! :face_with_peeking_eye:

Wtf has happened to this forum?

I put up a harmless you tube vid …(of Vic and Bob doing their ‘handbags’ routine) and I have been told it is offensive…or ‘inappropriate’.
It was meant as a JOKE ffs.

The same vid has appeared on mainstream tv countless times …not to mention on this forum in the past .
How is it offensive …unless you are a terminal snowflake ?

I mean, is it any wonder this forum is a shadow of it’s former self with this sort of thing.
Ridiculous ruling which is essentially censoring of harmless material.

I can not think why this forum is dying off and has lost membership and popularity.
Presumably this post will also be ‘censored’.

I agree mate … it’s fkd .

They used to give a reason. Not clear here whether it’s seen as an attack (if so, on whom?), offence (by whom?), offence on someone else’s behalf (good luck with that one!), poor taste () or just random crap (as per TN rules)…

I have to say, it was a bit of a red herring but I’m not racist about soused fish.

Ah! It’s Sunday morning and I haven’t got any younger :hugs:

Maybe ALL of those reasons mate, you know how society has become,.and it looks like it is getting that way in the world of hard assed truckers. :joy:

So apparentlly…quote: ‘‘The Community’’ (the community ffs  ) quote :''Feels it to be offensive, abusive,.and to be of hateful content, a violation of our community guidelines ‘’ :flushed:
I kid you not.:joy:

I mean c’mon, it was a sketch off a tv show ffs.
In my view anybody on here either a TN forum member, or one of …‘The Community’ who can not take something which in essence was a bit of banter posted innocentlly , without bursting into tears…, should immediately go home, and wrap thrmselves in cotton wool, and sit in a dark room… just in case anybody ELSE upsets their delicate soul.

Am I ott here ?
Making a giant mountain out of a molehill? …probably so.
But fact is if ever I am found to be in the wrong, I am the very first to genuinely and humbly apologise, …NOT for this.
If I aint in the wrong and told off like a effin schoolkid, and especially by either a group of delicate snowflakes/or even on bealf of a particular one,
I will kick off with a 2 word answer.

If the forum wants to bin me off for all this, or if I have broken another of their rules…so be it, not fussed.

Probably? :grinning:
Definitely…again.

You put up a post because you thought someone was being overly touchy, and now, guess what?
You put up a post because you feel all hurt!

The post you objected to seems to be from a new poster looking for info/photos about a deceased relative.
Not from a

But hey!
Your nose is out of joint again, so rant and rave on, about how hurt you are with every tiny slight that you feel.

Now, dry your tears, and don’t forget to tell us how tough and thick skinned you are! :grinning:

Oh dear Frangers is also upset but on behalf of the community :joy:
Who would have thought it? :joy:.

Yep…just the sort of post I would expect from you .:joy:
You illustrate my point better than I ever could.:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I aint ‘hurt’ btw, maybe bemused, surprised even amused…hurt not,
c.'mon Frangers,.I aint YOU.

While I .‘‘dry my tears’’ , I’ll part with this.
If I can manage to get under the skin of a certain type of person (and especially you ) not only am I of a clear conscience, but it goes a hell of a long way to giving me a sense of satusfied well being.
I mean c.'mon mate you know how ‘tough I am’ :joy: :joy:
You have made my Sunday..

I have to say, my confusion was the ‘voice’ in Robroy’s post. The video was removed and in its place it says:

This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.

Now, I thought Robroy had written that, because it’s in his post. The ‘voice’ of the moderator used to be in a separate box under the post. That used to show the reason for censure and the name of the moderator if he/she chose to disclose it.

I need to know who is talking in a given post: the mod or the poster.

Now that I know that it was a mod who made that statement, the picture is clear. Someone flagged up the video and the mods, as they are obliged to do, responded. I still think Rob is owed a fuller reason for censure though, as are we all. I wasn’t offended by the vid, I just thought it banal but wasn’t moved to actually complain about it.

So tough, that you put up the same post in two different threads to show how hard done by you are.

Am I upset by your posts?
Not at all. Amused/mystified is nearer.

If you wish to query what the Mods are doing with one of your posts you can ask them.
Ever thought of that? Send a PM.

Nowhere near as dramatic though, is it?

I don’t see why Rob should have to PM the mods to find out what he’s done wrong. Yes, PM them to challenge their decision afterwards, by all means.

We all navigate by the responses mods make to our posts. Thus informed, we learn accordingly.
