Dave the Renegade:
Quite a lot of artics hauling out of the Gore, the last few months, some from South Wales, some from Bayston Hill, not sure which this one coming onto the weighbridge is from.
hi dave,
i think that fh is based in south cornelly quarry, very near to me.i know that they are all struggling for work at the moment.what with the way the recession is going it seems to be getting harder for them from what i am told.
regards andrew
Hi Andrew,
They are getting £3 a ton for a fifty mile +round trip, the local rigids were getting £3.75 until the quarry stopped them doing it,was only considered a make up job then to do when nowt else was on,the blokes from your way,and the Shrewsbury artics aren’t making much out of it,as hammer say’s they have got them by the goolies.
Cheers Dave.
The bloody problem is everyone has to have a degree now a days. Traffic routers/clerks were ex drivers they’d give you a job and say go down the A■■?
turn left at a pub turn right and left and your there .You could ring in (phone box) and say I 'am nr a garage they would give you directions because
they new the job . They even could say if it was a rigid or artic job but now its down to computers and they only know whats fed in.A company i worked at
got new outfits for us I stated we did’nt want trailers higher than 13/6 what did we get 14/6. So one job was quite regular tip 1/2 a load in Nottingham
then tip out in Ripley down A?? under 13/9 bridge, onto A6 into Hopton reload for Chester. Not any more out of Ripley into Derby round ring road back
along A6 get into Hopton TO LATE COME BACK TOMOROW. A accountant/Computer knew more than the driver who had been doing that route for years.
Not to mention the extra fuel we used. One job near Diss was 60 miles out of your way (with 2 pallets) for a matter of 100 yards and a 14foot bridge.
The trafic clerk said give the bridge a try I think they give you a few inches to play with. How far out of your way was that windrush?? i did know that back
way over past Diversay and come out by Fuch oils but the computer did’nt.
John i give up.
HI dave
A mate of mine let me look at his dads computer a few months back(little red book)He was getting £18 a ton.Cheshire to South Wales. £12 a ton Cheshire to Rotherham. He run 6 wheelers and how much was diesel in 1967. Its not a wind up i don’t want to say who.
