Nice old Leyland Dave, I remember Terry Barry running one of those years ago, a 4 wheeler ex. Febrys of Chipping Sodbury. A bit different to the kit he runs now.

John.

One of the Pontrilas sawmills fleet, seen on the A49 Leominster bypass.
the chap up the road from me used to drive for them had a foden untill it got nicked form the abbey forgate truck park in shrewsbury.
They used to have three based in the Knighton area, working as a team hauling from the Welsh forests back to Pontrilas.
One of the Fodens had a crane mounted on the unit and when not in use it faced forward over the top of the cab,it was driven by John Powell from Knighton, all those blokes have retired now.I notice they are running M A N as well as Volvo now.
Cheers Dave.
If you want a nice relaxing driving job, you can do worse than driving a 6 wheeler on asphalt; most jobs are footpath ones for Council where they pay waiting time as they rake the stuff into wheelbarrows. An OD I know runs a 6 wheeler and 4x 8 wheelers and says his 6 makes the most profit because of the waiting time (say £50p/hour) the load delivered and the fact the lorry’s using no fuel or wear and tear whilst on site.
Hi Nathan,
The hauliers and O/D’s this way get nowhere near that amount. They are struggling at the moment to get a decent rate for most of the work they do.I can’t for obvious reasons say to much on here, but several have got out, with more looking to do the same.
The job featured in the pics is one of the better one’s,so I’ve been told.
Cheers Dave.
