hiya,
This motor only looks to have a “little body” on her must carry heavy freight, as you know i never did much tipper work but when working for a company called Glendennings in the 70s they had a few tippers which were used mainly for coal from Consett to Fords at Dagenham, during a rail strike in the 70s all the local hauliers were drafted in to haul iron ore from Teesside to the steelworks in Consett, well i came alongside the loader a couple of buckets and the machine operator beckoned me to go to the weighbridge pulled on a bit and looked in the back the stuff was no more than a foot deep thinking the loader had made a mistake and i would have to go back for a top up but when i got on the bridge had 21 ton on her back half a ton too much had to go back and open the tailboard, i was a rubbish tipper driver though.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry,
LTH haul roadstone and building aggregates to their own customers. Those trailers can carry just about 30 ton, which is a good payload.I used to be the CPC holder with them a few years back,at the time they had a couple of Foden Alpha units with trailers with low aggregate bodies which gave them a payload of 30.5 tonne.
Its surprising what some of the quarry materials weigh especially if its wet.Never done coal or iron ore, only stuff I hauled from a steelworks was basic slag.
Cheers Dave.

Hi John,
I’m not sure but they could have been ex military.I think S W Brisbane had two of them.Powells of Kington had a similar one, they called that one the Queen Mary, that was an ex Royal Navy lorry.
I will ask my old mate John Cross about the Brisbanes Leylands when I see him.
Cheers Dave.
