Warning;Gibraltar tensions with Spain

Spain wants to impose a 50 Euro tax to cross the border.Reports of delays at customs of up to seven hours in high temperatures with no shade by the Spanish.
Plans to divert aircraft away from Spanish air space heading to and from Gibraltar.
Tax investigations in to owners of Spanish houses who live in Gibraltar. All this is over an artificial reef with rocks being dumped in the sea and the Spanish fishing boats can not fish there.
Has any truck traffic been effected in this.?
When i was working there in the 90’s long delays at customs was normal and a snake formation of traffic queues to get out and in.
If they got upset over policies they would delay customs check points.
Back then the craze was buying huge stocks of cheap sugar by the boot full from Gibraltar.

Ok chaps, Here’s the plan:
We will dig three tunnels, Tom, ■■■■, and Harry.
Getting rid of the dirt isn’t a problem, We’ll dig another tunnel and put it in there.

Why do they get so bothered about a lump of rock.If they want it that bad then buy it.

Strategic position and we fought for it, it is worth more to Britain than any money that Spain could afford.

It’s a shame they don’t think as honourably about the Sovereignty of the United Kingdom.

good one limey, great escape and porridge come to mind

I’ve just heard on BBC news that the EU are sending an observer to Gibraltar.

According to the BBC news, the observer is expected to arrive in September or October. :open_mouth:

I must have missed something, but is that how long they’re suggesting it takes the EU to get its arse in gear and send somebody from Brussels to observe in Gibraltar?

Really??

Said observer will have been given plenty of time to still fit in his family holiday. Time will also have been granted for said observer to prepare his expenses claim form prior to departure. The average working man has no idea how complicated and time consuming these complex logistical issues take to organise. We need to stay in our rightfull place and keep our faith in the wonder that is the EU. Don’t worry they will sort all this out

I thought that there was a law that enables travelers no hinderance or delays at borders. For freight traffic the same applies to freight traffic. Is it Scheingen agreement or wording similar to that.
It seems Spain intends to break the law on free borders.
Most of the residents of Gib work in Spain so paying 100 euros five or six times a week.Over a year. You do the maths.Illegal.Got to be.

while all this goes on spain gets off free with no mention of there coloney in moroco

The problem is that the UK is not a signatory to the Scheingen agreement and so Spain can enforce a crossing fee if it wishes.
The UK opted out of the agreement to “protect its borders”.

We never fought for gib we bought it , off the Spanish.
The fishermen complain they can’t fish !!? I say bull s*** , what they mean is they can’t get close enough to the shore to carry out smuggling trips.

I think we, England captured it fair and square in 1704 with help from the Dutch navy and King George 2nd was on the throne

How about Catalonia ? Or the basque region ? Or Ceuta ?

I do think Spain is being well over the top but I cant be the only one shouting ‘LIFT THE FUPPING BLOCKS OUT OF THE FUPPING WATER YOU FUPPERS’. Can I? Why don’t we just remove the bloody blocks and we can all go back to the status quo and Spain will be happy with their ‘victory’
