Does Anyone have any pics of these companies from Birkenhead.
Was you lashed when you put these on■■? stood on me head to view the last couple!!
Where in Birkenhead were/are they based?

I think that last pic needs 2 be upside down and in the bin
no not lashed ha ha .they were based in neptune street birkenhead just off corporation road …a small family company which dated back to 1890 i think ,and went bust in 2004 .a real shame my grandfathers dad kicked it all off and now its just too hard 2 get things rollin again but we can all dream and who knows whats round the corner whatch this space …
sorry bout the photos just gettin to grips with photobucket …
The last incarnation of Finneys or WRS was based at the old Cammel Lairds shipyard along with a few other now defuct companies like T and A Transport.
Did WRS really stand for Wirral’s Red Sheds rather than Whalley Road Services

My first memory of Finney’s is when they were next to my primary school in Cavendish street, almost 50 years ago.
Almost all the Birkenhead general hauliers have gone now, Norseman Freight, Smethurst, Websters, Horners, Johnson’s, the only one’s still going are Alpine & A V Crutchley who both moved from Shore Road to Ellesmere Port & Darlingtons who moved from Heswall to Bromborough
If you want to drive a truck locally you need to get on with one of the big boys it seems
cracking photos. i drove d346 and d347 rhd. they were new to wilsons of boroughbridge.

Darlingtons only seem to survive today by paying peanuts or maybe they always did.
What was the company that worked out of the yard between Church Rd/Derby Rd Tranmere until recently?
Webster Bros, John & Graham Webster, I think Graham has passed on.

That’s it! Thanks! Are they still going?
No, I’m not sure if they sold out to Great Bear (who took their work over) or if they just shut up shop
god twin splitter my dad did abit for them years ago so I take it wrs must of bought them after wilsons became Reed Boardall and where mr cassells made a name for himself
sixby2 or wis wis got any more pics suppose you could put on a pic of moody blue as thats still FBL
websters sold out to great bear and until a couple of years back you could still spot a great bear unit with a websters trailer on the back coming out of levers. my own recollection of finnys was as a lad jumping on the back of a sed atk 400 that was parked up down by woodside, finding it loaded with r whites lemonade and having a lemonade fight with my mates with the bottles shaken up!. needless to say i ended up in the bridewell getting a caution, followed by a good beating off my dad. as a nine year old my life as a career criminal swiftly ended!.
Heres an old 'un.
Cheers Bubbs.
