Sorry poor old sixby2 aint stuck in the loft. He maybe in a tesco’s rdc or fixing trucks

Thanks for putting this thread forward “K Adams” For some-one like me , who left Birkenhead 45 years ago, this thread, and the pics posted by sixby2, ( not forgetting Bubbleman, who never fails to turn up a good ,un), have brought on a dose of Heavy Duty nostalgia for the old home town.

Buycrider to be honest I came by this thread by accident. Some of the lads who I work with talked about Finney and WRS as Iam not from birkenhead but have lived in Wallasey now for 8years and remembering the red trucks when I moved down. My previous employer there was a lad there who worked for WRS. Well I thought Id put up a post. It wasnt until about 3 months in my new job I met our fitter and got talking to him me and me being nosey just asking about stuff companys etc I got a history lesson and found out that our fitter owned WRS towards the end.

I told sixby2 about Tnet and the post after him posting some of the pictures on facebook. Sure enough he will be posting more thats if hes not busy

My wife’s maiden name is Stringfellow, she has a cousin called Ronnie who lives (lived) in Leasowe area, he’d be about early 70’s now, last time I saw him he ran a cafe in Wirral Concrete (Johnson Bros) yard opposite Cadbury’s about 10 years ago

\Websters sold out to Great Bear and six months later one of the brothers died. Still a few of the old Webby’s drivers on for Great Bear.
The Son (can’t remember his first name) worked for them for a bit as Transport Manager but I think they ■■■■ on him a bit and the last I heard he was on for Aldi as a driver out of Neston

Stringy, I,m sorry that I missed your response to my question about my former workmate at Bidston Loco. I left there in 1959, but his age is right so it,s highly likely that he,ll be the man. If it,s that long since you,ve seen him there,s not much point in me giving you my name just now. :bulb: :bulb: But if you did just happen to see him any time, just send me a pm. If I,m still alive, I,ll send you me details.

I am sending this on behalf of my Mother (she does not have a computer)
I first met Mr & Mrs Whalleyof 29 Bray Street Birkenhead (Kathleen, Pat & Tommy) in the early 1950’s. Tommy drove the HGV to allow the workmen to lay tarmac. If you need any more info let me know.
Best wishes
Lila
