VOSA Officers have now been issued with speed guns and are now targeting
overspeeding! Be warned 50 mph duel c/ways and 40mph single you know the rest.
Where is this information from ? VOSA do not have the power to enforce ‘speeding’. Overspeeding means absolutely nothing on your tacho.
Whats VOSA going to do if your doing over the speed limit?
this story smells like bull [zb] to me.

I have read of an operator having his O licence removed because his vehicles were regularly speeding in the vicinity of the yard, there being a maximum 40mph speed limit for several miles around it.

Haha, a wannabe traffic cop
All offences have to be reported to the TC and the operator visited but hey oh what do i know!

Can that info be towards the VOSA traffic light system ?
found this date January 2013 page 7 yes i know how said

VOSA have also
been trialling the use of speed
guns to provide information on
speed limiter and fraudulent
tachograph recording
offending, the results have
been promising, and the
practical introduction of the
devices is now being
assessed.

On tachograph records, I cant see why they would invest in buying expensive equipment, time in getting VOSA employee’s certified to use it, money to ensure the calibration certificates are in place, when they could simply rock up at the operating centre and download the data on existing equipment.
It could be said it was to be used to catch vehicles with defective or incorrectly set speed limiters,
All offences have to be reported to the TC and the operator visited
Only offences the operator has been convicted of, VOSA have no prosecute to convict over speeding
Edit posted at the same time as delboy
I have noticed that when ever vosa pull in front with follow me flashing the drivers in the vosa car allways do 50 mph until turning of motorway,is this so they can see if your k factor/speedo is correct or if a truck has been deliberatly set up to show wrong speed?or am i just thinking too much?

I’ve heard that too, some outfit near wisbech. got hefty fine running into hundreds of thousands and driver conduct hearings? prob MMTM
Dan: Your thinking too much!
Rog: Its just another way of checking for non compliance of the operators licence, it will effect the OCRS on both scores Traffic offences and Roadworthyness. Its also a good way for VOSA to score new operators who start off grey (NS)
Speeding Hgvs are frowned apon by the TC and are classed as road safety issue, hence the reason they want more encounters reported to them. Speeding by all types of vehicles are currently recorded by WIMS and have been since it has installed at key locations the hand held device is just an addition so vosa officers in vehicles marked and unmarked can use them in more troublesome locations that the general public have reported hgvs as a nuisance.
in addition to that the device could help point things towards having a dodgy tacho or records!!!
So like my original post message says: BE WARNED!

The problem has been solved by Tesco and Asda, nothing does more than 38mph now.

this is a load of ■■■■■■■■
It maybe for defective speed limiters but everyone here knows that they are few and far between these days. I drive 4 or 5 different trucks every week and they are always set pretty much correctly. Hardly anybody comes past you doing more than 56, maybe even 57 these days. They are very rare if you see them now. It would be a big expense for VOSA to outlay to catch them very few trucks, they’d have to be in the right place at the right time. They’d be better asking unmarked police cars to keep an eye out for any truck doing noticeably more than 56mph, logging the registration and then they can investigate the company and the offending vehicle.
On the other hand they should prosecute the companys setting their limiters to ridiculously low speeds and cite dangerous vehicle haha
