overspeeding! Be warned 50 mph duel c/ways and 40mph single you know the rest.
this is a load of ■■■■■■■■
agree with this they haven’t the power would need an act of parliment to change the law same as before when they needed a policeman present to pull you. Also on the analogue cards have had a bo11ockin from the police when they have looked at the card and i was over 40mph yet said that they couldn’t do me for it so again would need another change in the law for you to prosecuted only on the evidence of a card.
Rog: Its just another way of checking for non compliance of the operators licence, it will effect the OCRS on both scores Traffic offences and Roadworthyness. Its also a good way for VOSA to score new operators who start off grey (NS)
Speeding Hgvs are frowned apon by the TC and are classed as road safety issue, hence the reason they want more encounters reported to them. Speeding by all types of vehicles are currently recorded by WIMS and have been since it has installed at key locations the hand held device is just an addition so vosa officers in vehicles marked and unmarked can use them in more troublesome locations that the general public have reported hgvs as a nuisance.
in addition to that the device could help point things towards having a dodgy tacho or records!!!
So like my original post message says: BE WARNED!
the ocrs score is flawed from the start anyway as not all stops are logged onto the system which is wrong.
havent vosa been trialing this for the past year?(speed guns) i’m sure i read something about last year in commercial motor. also read about vosa officers running alongside side trucks using digital thermomaters too check temp of hubs etc which would highlight brake probs
I just hang a CD in my windscreen so VOSA can’t see me. I sail past their checkpoints with 26 tonnes of steel plate on the deck and 26 tonnes of hanging meat on the roof with my 14-year-old boy doing the driving.

Some of you folk really should have gone to Specsavers.
From an earlier post…
VOSA have also been trialling the use of speed guns to provide information on speed limiter and fraudulent tachograph recording offending, the results have been promising, and the practical introduction of the devices is now being assessed.

So what that really means is that VOSA will be using them on motorways in an attempt to catch those who do not have correctly set speed limiters, or are using “devices” to get around them.
This will be used as “reasonable cause” to investigate further in order to obtain evidence for those 2 specific offences.
VOSA has not currently got any legal authority to prosecute any driver for speeding. Nor will the evidence obtained by them be sufficient to convict someone of speeding, in just the same way that you cannot be convicted of speeding purely on tachograph evidence.

The OP didn’t say VOSA were using them as the basis for prosecutions.

I have a feeling that is what he wanted us to believe though…scaremongering i think its called
Kerbdog:
On the other hand they should prosecute the companys setting their limiters to ridiculously low speeds and cite dangerous vehicle haha
This is getting beyond a joke, you’ve got a Morrisons doing 50 on the M6, an Elddis or similar doing 52 trying to pass him and everyone else ( including coaches) stuck behind for miles
Safe driving? Aye right

Whereas if Morrisons (and Tesco, and DHL, and Elddis, and everyone else) all had their limiters set to the same nominal 56mph, you would still get truck A doing 55.5mph with Truck B at 55.7mph struggling to pass him with Truck C, D, E and F all lined up behind waiting for their turn to pass, holding the coaches etc up for even longer. The real problem is steering wheel attendants who see it as an affront to their manhood if a “lesser” vehicle passes them, or are simply incapable of backing the cruise control off a click or two, or even (shock, horror!) actually driving without the cruise control for a few minutes.
or you could drive with the cruise set 3kph below max then when you catch a truck up you would be able to overtake swiftly…without having to sit right up his arse until you think you can take him on a hill

The Daf unit that is nominally “mine” has a useful feature in that the maximum speed that the CC can be set to is 85kph, but the thing will actually go to 89kph on the throttle pedal. So I happily cruise at 85kph until I come up behind a Morrisons etc truck, at which point I squeeze a few more kph out of it until safely past.

Interesting, as the Foden Alpha I used to drive was limited to 52 on the throttle but the cc could be used to drive at 55.
I always cruise at about 2mph under the limiter, as said before you then have a reserve when creeping past something.
