Volvo Fh4, the worst truck ever built?

Build quality is appalling flimsy, mine drinks ad blue like a b@st@rd, suppose I’m 75% at 44 ton !
I agree with the Taff on everytime you wash it or it’s been raining & you open the door you get soaked ! Pulls like a train tho’ but our 12 plate FHs have got better built interiors.
Although nice and roomy inside, think the next model will have ironed out all the problems.
Seems like it was rushed out too quick !

Get a Scanny! Out of our fleet that’s iveco, merc, and dafs ranging from 63-15 plates my trustee 62 has been rock solid, going to miss the beast when due for renewal in a few months. Trying to talk them into another Scania and given everything else’s track record I think they’ve realised it’s costing more in downtime. They said got cheap deals and now know why !

Scania, ■■■■ that. Only Scania I’ve driven was awful (only worse one was an Iveco). Crunches gears all the time. Only way to make it not crunch is to slam the clutch into the floor with as much force as you can muster. And that ■■■■■■■ clutch. “Clutch saver” I had to google it to figure out why the clutch didn’t work.

■■■■ that. Get a DAF.

Anyone else with a FH4 whos ad blue tank is fitted on top of the exhaust on the back of the cab having trouble filling it up??
Because I have a hell of a time trying to in most places I’ve stopped the trigger just keeps clicking off all the time,it took me nearly 10 mins the other day to put 5lts in it. :open_mouth:
It’s driving me nuts TBH.

I used to have a problem …till I went to maplin and bought two small magnets for the end of the nozzle …it connects to the end and makes the nozzle think it’s in the neck of the tank which is a magnet

I swear that’s why I have them officer

Is anybody happy with there Volvo FH Version 4 ?
What about the euro 6 FM’s are they suffering from the same ad blue problems ?

Have had mine 7 weeks, no issues yet. The radio is a bit of a bugger, you need the right screen showing for the function you want. Mine stores my settings on my digicard so never had an issue when someone else drives it. The top step is useless for storing your boots or gloves now compared to the earlier ones, a bit of drizzle and it get soaking in there. Have had no issue with adblue yet, 21k on the clock and get 3 tanks of derv, 500l each, out of a tank of adblue. I do have a slight whistle on the right A-pillar at 56, not that annoying yet, my cab is waterproof, except of course that lousy angled sunroof that when you leave it open overnight to get some fresh air in lets all the water in when it pours.

I find the stock stereo speakers crap and am seeing if I can get some better ones fitted, the left dashboard one rattles when on full volume, not sure if it is the speaker or the dash cover, one of those where it only rattles when you get going so you can’t isolate the problem, need to take someone with me next time to see if I can source the rattle.

Engine has better torque it seems compared to the E5’s it pulls a full load up hills a lot better leaving Merc’s, Scanny’s and Daf’s in its wake. Adaptive Cruise is brilliant on motorways.

It is slow building up the air, especially if you couple up to a trailer with low or empty tanks, it takes quite a while, the suspension is slow lowering too when you uncouple to keep your fifth wheel flat. Just taking ones time is needed with both.

As to Adblue filling not going all the way to the top and clicking off early, resetting the actual adblue pump seems to cure that, happened only ones with me, not sure if it was the truck or the pistol.

My first ad blue pump went at 30k second at 50k. You’re right about how well they pull, not much can live with them on hills. Both doors stream water if the wind is blowing that way. The air suspension only works if you DON’T press the button to turn it on. If you hit the button first it will only raise about 2ins

To use the air suspension use the up and down arrow whichever way you want to go, when it stops press the green button, then quickly press up down button for whichever way you won’t it to go , it goes up quite far

That was what I meant, think they complicated the system tbh, I only found out by mistake, forgetting to hit the button first, after slagging off the air suspension for a couple of months first

Press either arrow and the Mem button (the round one) together and it will go max up or max down and stay there without having to hold either directional button, handy for coupling and uncoupling, it still takes a lot longer then the older ones though, wonder if the tanks are smaller, need to look into that.

it has a smaller compressor for fuel efficiency, that’s why its so slow

Me too pal,i banged a defect in saying the handset for the air suspension was bolloxed

Friend sent me this recently. At least they got a sens of humor at Volvo

That was the scenario with the 63reg on Friday. ■■■■■■■ thing even said park on level ground before starting :open_mouth:

Just because of the I-shift gearbox. Everything else is normal nothing special.

Just an update, currently sat in mc truck at Aylesford, having pump number 4 fitted, with a milage of 64k. Then next Thursday, it’s back into Thurrock to have a load of defects sorted. Poxy heap of junk
