So off I trot to mc truck, for my 3rd ad blue pump on my euro 6 fh500, after the death light came on this morning. Instructed by my oppos to retrieve another of our vehicles, a 63 that had its 4th screen due to twisting a pillars, to find it won’t start. Buzzers and lights, “start impossible, park brake malfunction, contact workshop”.
Off I go, greeted by the same guy I’d just given a coating for these ■■■■ poor creations. “I’ll get a technician out”. Along comes a 17 year old kid with a spanner. “I’m off home in 15 mins so if this doesn’t work then I don’t know”.
Battery off and on, no change, nobody knows what to do, now I’m waiting on a lift.
Get a Scanny! Out of our fleet that’s iveco, merc, and dafs ranging from 63-15 plates my trustee 62 has been rock solid, going to miss the beast when due for renewal in a few months. Trying to talk them into another Scania and given everything else’s track record I think they’ve realised it’s costing more in downtime. They said got cheap deals and now know why !
Main issues for me is the nightmare handbrake [[air pressure takes yonks to build up and wont release]]keep breaking inside door handles until they retro fitted old ones then no problems, radio is crap and way too busy,if a agency man has one for a shift they completely ■■■■ the radio up,the version 3 was loads better made and driver friendly but the new one is lovely to drive and bigger inside,im glad i didnt buy one with my own money but still like it
‘Nobody knows what to do’, or alternatively the guy who you’ve just given ‘a coating’ to for something which is probably not his fault said ■■■■ him, let him sort himself out.
I love it on here…
Edit: The Friday agency baiting has begun already too!
The bloke who tried to race me from the lights 3 times this afternoon must think they are fantastic seeing as i had an empty flat on and he had a loaded container on the back

Ok then pal,the radio is too complex to a novice who doesnt know what they are on doing,is that any better
The guy I gave the coating to was the service manager, nothing to do with the Kevin and Perry type sent out. And I was there when he was told to do it. The reason I had a moan at the service manager is because of the poor treatment we’ve been getting.
Here’s the back story. We’re the second biggest customer of 500 xl’s in the country (Hanbury riverside being the biggest) and mc trucks second biggest customer (again behind hanbury). The 63 plates all turned up the wrong spec, 5th wheels, ride and ramps. They were changed after a big to do. The 64s turned up the same, but this time no changes were made, after a load of excuses. The 63s (15 in total) have had batteries on all, air bags on all, lift axle bags on 6, windscreens on 12, 3 twice and 1 3 times.
10 64 plate euro 6 have had between 2 and 3 ad blue pumps, and 5 of the 15 plates have had them too.
The windscreen issue is down to flex in the top of the cab. Just look at the cracks in the paint at the top of the A pillars on most fh’s over 6 months old
I’m coming off the road soon to become fleet manager, so I was voicing a few concerns to the right people. My boss has rung mc’s till to the tune of over £3million. And we’re not receiving a service that reflects it
Do you also get soaked when it either rains or you wash the truck and open the drivers door?
All of ours do it it’s a nightmare when you leave your shoes on the top step they get absolutely soaked!!!

Well, fair enough, but with the greatest respect, if you’re still a driver at the moment I would say it’s the boss’ job to be sorting such things out. If it is as bad as made out then you firm’s director(s) should be down at the dealer having a serious sit-down with their top men.
The ad blue pumps are a recognised problem with volvo. They’re being done under warranty, but taking anything between 2 and 5 days. Not bad for a truck advertised with 100% uptime
With you on this Mate … My Fh went into torque reduction mode on weds…rung 4 different dealers at about 6.30 in the evening not one of them would even look at at …decided to put up with it and booked it in at Swindon Friday morning… spent three hours Sat there like a dipstick only for them to tell me nothing wrong with it because the laptop says so … Cleared all the faults off computer… Obvs returned again today … I’m not a mechanic and know its the pump… We also have two 64 plate 500 with numerous problems that the dealer wont sort …I’m a vvo fan but the way the dealers treat you quality of the truck …as soon as a decent right hand drive scania comes up Il be asking for it !
Used to drive a Seddon Atkinson with a vicious clutch, if I let out a bit sharp on a hill the bloody thing would rear up like a bloody horse with a red hot poker just shoved it’s arse and ■■■■ dashboard would fall out… but even with the dashboard hanging on wires it would still keep going…■■■■■■■ thing
Had mine 7 months (460) spent 5 hours in dealer at Exeter due to " incorrect ad blue consumption " turns out the nozzle that injects ad blue into exhaust had blocked up due to crystallisation of adblue & had to spend the night on a weighbridge at Stockton as it wouldn’t start , all lights on dash were ok but no power to starter , mechanic who came out said that the wires on the starter had rotted & dropped off as they get all the water & crap thrown up off the road . Apparently it was a problem on older volvos but all that has been done is that volvo have made it easier to get at when it does ■■■■ up. My cab leaks too
New batterys on mine within 12 months push button to let window down it wont go back up properly unless you open passenger side always malfunction lights coming on for one thing or the other keep switching of at isolator switch to clear it some weeks drinks ad blu other weeks ok depending on weight.
