Sure will, a good few of the old hands going and a few never seen before slides and cine film from those pioneers…our lads have issues when they got stuck on site in 8 inch of mud
, maybe we need to cover off in DCPC
Look forward to seeing the model show, always some top flight stuff, there are @ 300 trucks booked in to date, and the sun is booked…i hope

Good morning Jamie. No. I was already on Grangewood by then. Sad job because it was a really well equipped outfit but the Arab can only be fiddled for so long and he is sure to catch on in the end!Still as he was the Volvo distributor for Kuwait, Qatar and the Emirates I’m sure he managed to move them on.
No Robert, I don’t think so. All the motors went to Kuwait where he would have disposed of them locally.
Mike, you’ve done it again - reminded me of another name I had forgotten. Pat Hawkes - what a diamond he was. Anybody have any news of him?
David

Lance Biscombe posted some very interesting F88 pictures on the Lance Biscombe Bulk Haulage thread. The unit featured has been imported from Oz and has a 9-speed Fuller 'box (yeah!). Robert

Are you sure that came from Australia■■? most here ( and we’re talking 99% and upwards ) are G88’s with the front axle along way forward.
At that time you were only allowed 5.70 tons on the front axle as most of them had trilex wheels. So having a European front axle position wasn’t much good as it would be overloaded.
How’s that for trailer over hang.
adr that looks like the inside of Trevor Sweeting’s 88

I refer you to Lance Biscombe’s thread! The pictures appear to be of it landing here in Blighty. Robert
I’m not saying they didn’t exist, just that they were very rare, especially on 10 stud wheels.

Eric,
Dont think so tiptop but I

Hi ADR I was responsible for saving VTA, I bought her of a young man from Cornwall who ran a scrapyard, he said it was in good nick on the phone and the arrangement was he brought it to me because I was to busy to go and look. He said I would definitely buy it when I saw it so the deal was that if I did not buy I would fill his tank for his return journey, after 2hours of haggling and the price coming down from K7 to K5 and a new coat that came with the purchase of a new truck, he went home on the train. It had no 5th wheel as he had no HGV licence and had an F10 tank, all this was put right with an old donor 88 with a lot of help from Princes the then Volvo dealers, She went into service before we had a chance to paint her in our blue and white and was still a 4x2 which we later converted to 6x2 at Andover Trailers. Paul Ferris used to call at our yard on a regular basis trying to get me to sell her, he ran another 88 but she was full of pudding. At the end of the day he got left some money and I threw a price at him and he bit me hand of but he was really into his 88’s. VTA went all over Europe much to the amazement of other guys running abroad at the time, her first trip over the water for us was to Bosnia, she needed a little more TLC than the new motors we ran at the time but she paid her way, cheers Buzzer.

I am!
It was 1 of only 50 F88 290’s imported to AUSTRALIA by VOLVO in 1976. A bit odd as they usually imported G cab 88 240s at the time]
