volvo f88

Simply stunning! I don’t know how you do it. Robert

Hi Robert it was going to be GKP 423N inspired by the desert photo of it parked with another 88, but decided to change it to Mr Millers truck, this build was number 13. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks Tony !

Regards Jim

Another fantastic job Jimski.

Why as that f89 got a f88 grill m8

The 88 grill was smaller m8 :sunglasses:

Not on a 290 it wasn’t :exclamation:

Looks like you’re both right ?

2 x Early F88’s (Bill Puxley and Eaglewing) - small grill and side vent flaps but on MartinTrux subbie Stevens has an F88 290 with large grill

The Oryx F88 certainly had large grill and Jimski got it right !

Super models from JimSki and love to see them

Was’nt the small grill a 240 and large a 290?

I stand corrected although I drove the first 88’ imports in UK .

Model is amazing btw.

But he’s badged the model as an F89… I’m confused ?

Excellent job, jimski. It looks like you could fire it up and blast off into the distance.

Hi Harry

Yes - it’s getting confusing now.

I was only agreeing that the F88 had both small and large rad. grills, according to the engine fitted I think ?

My feeling is that F89’s were LHD only - so the Oryx motor probably was an F89, although I was basically a trailer man at heart ?

Here’s a restored F89 that’s been shown before on Trucknet

Got to say those models from Jimski are terrific - the attention to detail and the road grime on them is really just right to make them look working trucks

Eagle Wing - any relation to Conchita Wurst?

looks like you’ve done it again jimski, that is absolutely superb mate

cheers

God there`s some Nit pickers cracking job jimski just as in the pic.

Many thanks everyone !

Regards Jimski

If you look at the real F89 with the cab tilted in the desert, you can see the grille is only an inch deep, not two inch like on the model. Sorry for being an F88/F89 anorak and causing all this trouble over a grille but I am right!!

You are correct. The first full width black plastic grille’s were seen on the F89 and these were about 30mm thick.
When the ‘UK’ F88-290 came out in 1975, they modified this grille by inserting another 30mm filler to make it protrude out further to accomodate the larger radiator. The dipstick flap was flush on the F89 but on the F88-290 this flap was pushed out at the top with small rubber triangular flaps each side. The flap is held shut by coil springs.
